Position Title: Enterprise Writer

The Enterprise Writer will be responsible for pitching, researching, scripting, and hosting longform YouTube videos breaking down complicated political and economic ideas. The role requires a seasoned journalist with the ability to create highly sophisticated video content with complex storytelling and deep investigative reporting. Their focus will be on high-quality script writing for pieces that are largely hosted, either by themselves or other personalities, as in-studio desk explainers that are complemented by other inventive creative visualizations.
They will be constantly seeking out what’s working best on YouTube and implementing best practices in their work and advising the rest of the team. This role will work closely with the Class Room Team and on-camera talent to execute their assignments. This role must be immersed in and excited about the process of telling stories through video, with the technical and editorial skills to create powerful narratives that hook viewers and keep people watching to the end. The position requires a high level of self-sufficiency, strong collaboration and communication skills, and a desire to help develop and grow our brand.
Core Responsibilities:
- Write high-quality scripts, breaking down complex issues into clear and understandable narratives;
- Taking a leadership role on best storytelling practices for your work and other members on the team, giving story feedback and input at team meetings as needed;
- Research and report on issues to support videos in development;
- Cast interviewees, experts, and on-camera talent for pitched and assigned pieces.;
- Host on-camera in the studio and in the field as needed;
- Work closely with the Director, producers, and writers to direct on-camera talent;
- Collaborate with Class Room Team to develop a visual style for the series;
- Pitch ideas regularly for new episodes;
- Participate actively in creative brainstorming sessions, constantly iterating and evolving content;
- Archive and organize projects to streamline productions;
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet expected deadlines;
- Maintain high standard of work in a nimble, fast paced environment;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of relevant experience in roles such as reporter, researcher, writer, and/or journalist, with a proven track record of producing high-quality, impactful content across various platforms.
- Preference for candidates with experience in developing, launching, and overseeing original enterprise journalism series in video format, particularly those that involve in-depth reporting and storytelling.
- Demonstrable experience as a writer , with a strong portfolio showcasing the ability to craft engaging, compelling narratives about complex topics, breaking down intricate issues into accessible, understandable stories that resonate with diverse audiences.
- Experience creating or optimizing content for YouTube or other digital platforms, with a strong understanding of the unique characteristics of online audiences and how to drive engagement through video content.
- Strong research and investigative skills , with the ability to quickly identify credible sources, verify information, and navigate complex issues. Familiarity with research tools, databases, and fact-checking methods commonly used in investigative and enterprise journalism is essential.
- Proven experience in story editing , including reviewing and providing detailed feedback on script drafts, narrative structure, pacing, and tone. Ability to ensure stories are clear, concise, and engaging, while maintaining editorial integrity. Skilled at guiding writers and producers through revisions, identifying gaps in storytelling, and refining content to meet editorial standards and the project's overall vision.
