    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Air Quality Engineer to be based in our Chicago, Illinois office. This position will support our Air/EHS Team within our Environment business line.

    This position is expected to begin in January/February 2025.

    Responsibilities of this position will include executing and assisting with projects involving air quality-related environmental compliance services including air permitting, emissions calculations, performing studies and analyses, regulatory research, and compiling and writing reports and other documents. The candidate will assist with successfully conducting projects for industrial and public clients, while meeting cost, schedule, and quality objectives. The candidate will participate in project teams and coordinate with other AECOM offices doing similar work to share knowledge and participate in targeted business development activities.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Preparation of annual air emissions inventories.
    • Preparation of air emission permit applications and air operating permit applications.
    • Air quality compliance strategy development.
    • Preparation of greenhouse gas emissions calculations and reporting.
    • Interface with clients and regulators.
    • Complete projects on time and accurately.
    • Promote and demonstrate a positive, team-oriented attitude.
    • Perform quality checks on self & other team members' technical work products.
    • Inspect industrial facilities and programs to evaluate operational effectiveness and verify compliance with environmental regulations.
    • Apply knowledge of applicable environmental concerns.
    • Potential for on-site permitting and compliance support with our portfolio of clients.
    • Complete projects on time and accurately.
    • Promote and demonstrate a positive, team-oriented attitude.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
    • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Relevant years of engineering and/or consulting experience.
    • Proficient use of PC- based applications (MS Word and Excel).
    • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Must have strong written and oral communication, quantitative, and interpersonal skills.
    • Must have strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
    • Independent thinker with a strategic mindset while being detail oriented and able to work as part of a team.
    • Candidate must be proactive on projects and demonstrate initiative.
    • Relevant years of air permitting and compliance experience.
    • Understanding of air quality permitting, including PSD and Title V, as well as emissions control and compliance programs (TX air permitting experience preferred).
    • Understanding of EPA and State of TX air regulations, guidelines, and policies.
    • Familiarity with air dispersion modeling.
    • Experience with air quality task management, including contributing to proposals, communicating with clients, working in project teams, coordinating technical tasks, and report writing.

    Additional Information

    • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
    • Travel up to 10% is required for this position.
