    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Geologist to be based in our Glen Allen, VA office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line.

    The Entry-Level Geologist will serve as a team member in the office and the field, assisting project and program management with design and implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation.

    This position will also assist in the performance of regulatory compliance inspections, sampling, and reporting associated with the implementation of NPDES permit requirements for commercial/industrial facilities.

    This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

    The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

    • Soil and groundwater sampling, assessments, data collection and technical document preparation.
    • Utilize scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
    • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
    • Perform inspections and tests to ensure compliance.
    • Support execution of projects involving soil and groundwater investigation, compliance, and remediation activities in accordance with regulatory programs.
    • Assist Project team in project coordination, management of subcontractors, preparation of health and safety plans (HASPs), and efficient execution of project scope of work on time and within budget.
    • Provide office support for data management and report preparation.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Sciences, or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
    • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required for this role.
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.
    • Willingness to travel - Position may require 60-80% field time, depending on project assignments.
    • Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions (heat, cold, light rain, etc.)
    • Ability and willingness to work in a supervisory role (field work often requires supervision of subcontractors)
    • Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells
    • Experience in the collection and evaluation of environmental data in field and office settings
    • Experienced in preparation of investigation reports and drawings

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Great oral and written communication skills
    • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
    • GIT certification is a plus
    • Basic understanding of Environmental Due Diligence concepts
    • Basic understanding of RCRA / CERCLA concepts
    • Basic understanding of Erosion & Sediment Control and Stormwater Management concepts
    • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS is a plus
