Job Overview: The Epoxy Flooring Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of epoxy flooring systems in commercial, industrial, and residential spaces. This role requires expertise in surface preparation, mixing and applying epoxy materials, and ensuring that flooring installations are smooth, durable, and meet industry standards. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining safety protocols while working in various environments and handling materials properly.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces for epoxy flooring installation by cleaning, sanding, grinding, or shot-blasting to ensure proper adhesion.
Mix and apply epoxy and other resin-based coatings according to specifications, ensuring a smooth and even application.
Apply primer, base coats, and topcoats, ensuring proper curing times and surface finish.
Install epoxy flooring systems for a variety of applications, including but not limited to, garages, warehouses, hospitals, retail spaces, and industrial facilities.
Work with specialized tools and equipment, including mixers, sprayers, rollers, and grinders.
Ensure proper installation of decorative elements, such as color flakes, metallic finishes, or anti-slip textures.
Inspect and repair existing epoxy flooring, addressing issues such as cracks, chips, or wear.
Maintain accurate records of materials used, project progress, and work completed.
Ensure all safety standards are followed, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA regulations.
Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates on project timelines, potential challenges, and final results.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
Collaborate with project managers or supervisors to plan and prioritize flooring projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience as an epoxy flooring technician or in a similar role, with a solid understanding of epoxy systems and surface preparation.
Familiarity with various types of epoxy coatings, including those used for industrial, commercial, and decorative purposes.
Ability to mix and apply epoxy coatings correctly, ensuring uniform coverage and quality finish.
Experience with floor grinding, shot-blasting, and other surface preparation techniques.
Strong attention to detail, ensuring high-quality installations with smooth and durable finishes.
Knowledge of safety practices related to handling and applying chemicals and working in industrial settings.
Good physical stamina, as the role often requires lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
Strong communication skills to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and supervisors.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects on time.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in flooring or related fields is a plus.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in epoxy flooring installation, surface preparation, or a related trade.
Certification or training in epoxy flooring systems is preferred but not mandatory.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to kneel, squat, bend, and stand for extended periods.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and humid environments.
Ability to work with chemicals and materials, following safety protocols.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position, with potential for overtime based on project deadlines.
Work is primarily conducted indoors, but can involve outdoor installations depending on the project.
Travel to different job sites may be required.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to meet client needs or project schedules.
