Position Overview:
The Equipment Technician is responsible for Assembly, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of vacuum coating systems and supporting equipment at Armorlube. This role requires a highly skilled technician with knowledge in vacuum coating technology, mechanical systems, and electrical components. The technician will ensure that coating equipment is built to specifications, operates efficiently. The technician will assist in manufacturing new equipment, provide maintenance and repair services, and ensure that all vacuum coating systems operate efficiently and meet customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Assembly of Vacuum Coating Equipment:
Build, assemble, and integrate vacuum coating systems and related components, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
Collaborate with engineers to review system design and provide input on assembly techniques.
Interpret and follow engineering drawings and technical specifications for equipment assembly.
Adhere to safety protocols and regulations throughout the build process to ensure a safe working environment.
Identify the root cause of equipment or facility problems and implement effective solutions to resolve them.
Testing and Commissioning:
Conduct initial testing and commissioning of newly assembled vacuum coating systems.
Perform functional tests to ensure all components are operating as expected.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues during testing.
Maintenance and Repair:
Perform routine preventive maintenance on vacuum coating equipment to minimize downtime.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
Replace or repair faulty components such as vacuum pumps, chambers, power supplies, and control systems.
Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks on equipment and systems within the facility, such as Compressors, Chiller, plumbing, Wash line sand Blaster.
Equipment Upgrades and Modifications:
Implement modifications and upgrades to improve system performance, efficiency, and safety.
Work with senior engineers to identify areas for system optimization and recommend improvements.
Equipment Calibration and Optimization:
Calibrate vacuum coating systems to ensure they meet performance standards and production requirements.
Perform upgrades or modifications to systems based on customer feedback or evolving technologies.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed service reports on installations, maintenance work, and repairs, including parts used, labor hours, and any challenges encountered.
Submit timely reports to the service manager or relevant department, ensuring accurate tracking of work and parts inventory.
Document system changes, calibrations, and any customer-specific modifications for future reference.
Collaboration and Training:
Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to ensure proper installation and seamless integration of vacuum coating equipment.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, or service of vacuum coating systems, thin-film deposition equipment, or related machinery.
Prior experience working in customer-facing roles, with a focus on providing excellent service and support.
Technical Skills:
Extensive knowledge of vacuum coating systems, including PVD, CVD, and sputtering technologies.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and vacuum components of coating systems.
Experience with PLCs, electrical circuits, and control systems is a plus.
Strong knowledge of vacuum pumps, chambers, seals, and valves.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with customers and team members.
Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks effectively.
A flexible, adaptable approach to travel and working in varied environments.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs.).
Ability to work in various environments, including manufacturing facilities, and industrial settings.
Ability to work on-site for extended periods, often requiring travel and overnight stays.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position with travel as a core component of the role.
Field-based work in customer facilities, with periods of office-based activities for preparation, reporting, and administrative tasks.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols when working on-site.
