Position Summary:
The primary objective of this role is to prepare cost estimates for underground construction projects.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Consult with vendors, personnel in other departments or construction superintendent/engineers to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
- Analyze plan documents and other data to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
- Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
- Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project
- Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
- Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction
- Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components
- Working with estimating team to help predict the timescales of a project, which has a considerable bearing on costs
- Establishing the likely progress and completion rates, including allowances for bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances
- Calculating a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit, and presenting a tender price
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.

Required Experience
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline is required or relevant work experience,
- 5+ years of underground estimating experience required
Physical Demands
- Travel will be required to attend training and meetings.
- Ability to sit or stand for entire shift
- Occasionally requited to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
- Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.
