    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    The Executive Director of the non-profit corporation functions as the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation. In this capacity, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation of policies set by the Board of Directors, as well as annual goals and objectives. S/he is responsible for the financial, program and administrative management of the corporation. This part/full-time position is for immediate hire and reports to a Board of Directors. This impactful leadership position is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. This position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader who is passionate about leading hands-on operations, fostering growth, as well as developing and managing research enterprise.

    The Executive Director will have the opportunity to drive key change and transformation initiatives to meet the VA Research and Education organizational strategies and vision, working in collaboration with the Associate Chiefs of Staff for Research and Education. As a member of the VA Research Leadership Team, the Executive Director participates in managing all day-to-day business operations, including finance, HR, IT, research advancement, facilities and space management.

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

    · Responsible for overall leadership of the staff in the development and implementation of short and long range plans and policies, as well as other activities

    · Responsible for financial management of the corporation, including development and implementation of the annual budget

    · Responsible for the development, implementation and accomplishment of the annual work plan of the corporation

    · Responsible for liaison with other organizations, such as the VA Medical Center, the affiliate university, and the National Association of Veteran Research and Education Foundation(NAVREF)

    · Responsible providing information and advice to the Board of Directors in the creation of policies, programs and the strategic direction of the corporation

    · Responsible for support of activities associated with the Board of Directors, including staffing for board meetings, meeting schedules, locations, development of agenda and meeting materials

    · Responsible for the administration of the overall operation of the corporation, including: negotiation of CRADA agreements with sponsors on behalf of investigators, ensuring that contractual obligations are met, communication with VA offices of Technology Transfer and Non-Profit Oversight as required, preparation of annual reports as requested by the VA and the affiliate university, and developing organizational and administrative policies for the Board’s consideration.

    · Responsible for the overall supervision of all assigned staff.

    · Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable VA and HSS regulations related to human research protection

    Professional Qualifications Needed

    A MA, MBA, CPA, PhD, or JD

    Transparent and high integrity leadership.

    Five or more year’s senior nonprofit management experience AND must be able to obtain and retain an affiliate appointment with the Buffalo VA Health Care System; AND must be faithfully committed to the service of our Veterans.

    Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.

    High level strategic planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, and donors.

    Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to the overall research community.

    Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders.

    A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.

    Preferably fundraising experience.
