    The Opportunity

    The Gateway Center of Monterey County Board of Directors seeks a strategically minded, innovative Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization into the future by securing broader sources of funding and developing new strategic partnerships. The Executive Director will work on-site in collaboration with the staff and the board to provide strong organizational leadership and stewardship.

    The demand for Gateway Center’s high-quality care and community-based services for adults with developmental disabilities remains strong. Despite being highly regarded, Gateway Center of Monterey County remains a relatively lesser-known community resource. To meet the demand for high-quality care for adults with developmental disabilities, strong leadership, vision, and an elevated public profile will be needed.

    The Organization

    Gateway Center of Monterey County, Inc. (Gateway Center) is a private, not-for-profit, community- based organization which provides a wide range of services for adults with developmental disabilities, ages 18 and over, including residential and Day programs.

    Our mission is to serve adults with developmental disabilities. We fully support their individual rights and choices and empower them to live full and productive lives with dignity and independence within the community.

    RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

    Gateway Center operates two, 15-bed Intermediate Care Facilities, providing Residential Services since 1975 for Developmentally Disabled/Habilitative (ICF1 and ICF2) adults with qualifying high-level care needs. ICF’s provide 24- hour comprehensive, personalized care and habilitative services while promoting maximum independence in a secure and safe home-like setting.

    REINDOLLAR CARE HOME

    Our 4-bed, level 4i residential care home is located within the community of Marina. It provides 24-hour care and supervision for individuals with high needs, aged 18-55. Residents receive the individual support they need in all areas of daily living skills.

    SUPPORTED LIVING SERVICES

    Supported Living Services is a program that provides life skills training and support services to individuals within the comfort of their own home. Life skills training and support includes but is not limited to: Money Management, Health and Safety, Personal Hygiene, Social and Personal Skills, Mobility Training and Leisure/Recreation. Supported Living may provide services to a consumer for up to 7 days a week. A consumer is eligible for services, regardless of severity of disability. Services may be provided for an indefinite period of time. Home seeking and staff hiring are included in the services. Services are provided in the individual’s home.

    INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES

    Independent Living Services includes life skills training. This includes but is not limited to: Money Management, Health and Safety, Personal Hygiene, Social/Personal Skills, Mobility Training and Leisure/Recreation. Service hours are limited to an average of 30 hours of training per month. Based on a customer’s needs, an increase of hours is available. A customer is eligible for services based on his/her ability to actively participate in the training provided. Training hours are provided with the objective of phasing out services. Home seeking and staff hiring are included in the services.

    This service is available for individuals still living in the family home or on their own.

    DAY PROGRAM SERVICES

    Community Adult Development Center (CADC)

    The Community Adult Development Center was established in 1996 to provide community integration with a focus on socialization, self-advocacy, safety skills, and community and educational enhancement opportunities. Trips to the library, bowling, bingo and growing vegetables and herbs in our community garden are just a few examples of daily community activities.

    Senior Day Program (Pacific Grove and Salinas)

    The Senior Day Program was developed in response to the growing number of seniors with intellectual disabilities residing in Monterey County. The emphasis of our Senior Day Program is on providing social and recreational opportunities, maintenance of self-help skills, advocacy, and age-related health and emotional issues in both community and classroom settings. Some of the senior program activities include having lunch and playing bingo at the Salvation Army, visits to the Steinbeck Library, shopping, arts and crafts activities, daily exercise programs, games, music and movies

    Without Walls Program (WOW)

    Our WOW Program was developed in 2017. The program is designed to meet the individual needs and preferences of each student. It is oriented towards younger, higher functioning adults. The program emphasizes the following: education; community integration; relationship building, socialization and communication skills as well as pre-vocational experiences and development of independent living skills in a classroom setting.

    Executive Director Requirements

    Key Position Responsibilities

    The overall development and management of Gateway Center’s daily operations, programs, employees and facilities including the following:

    ? Maintain and continue to develop a strong leadership team

    ? Provide oversight to the overall organization

    ? Adhere to Gateway Center’s mission as its representative with respect to clients, families, donors, volunteers, community partners and the community

    ? Elevate the organization's public profile, brand, and reputation by evaluating and executing strategic opportunities and strengthening community relationships

    ? Ensure that Gateway Center and its employees comply with all applicable federal, state and ocal laws and regulations regarding Gateway Center’s activities and programs

    Organizational Leadership

    ? Provide leadership, oversight, and executive decision making that is informed by feedback from Gateway Center’s staff, volunteers, board members, families, partnering organizations, and funders

    ? Provide for professional development of all staff (This is what the leadership team and HR should be doing.)

    ? Establish and maintain a strong culture of transparency and trust throughout the organization

    ? Collaborate with the board to support the organization’s policies, maintaining and updating them in line with the mission and bylaws

    ? Work with the Board Chair to educate and maintain robust board membership that has the collective skills and wisdom to properly lead the organization as per its mission and bylaws

    ? Actively participate in all board activities, meetings and subcommittees

    Budget and Fiscal Management

    ? Collaborate with the Finance Director, Board Treasurer, and the Board’s Finance Committee to establish and maintain best fiscal practices, develop annual budgets, project expense and revenue needs (operating, capital and reserve), track financial progress, and maintain strong fiscal oversight plus maintain sufficient reserves and capital to meet projected needs

    ? Collaborate with the Finance Director and Board Treasurer to ensure delivery of accurate and timely financial reports to donors and the board’s finance committee and the Board of Directors

    ? Collaborate with the Finance Director, Treasurer, and the Board’s Finance Committee to ensure safe and prudent management of all bank accounts, endowments and reserve funds

    ? Provide oversight of all contract and grant negotiations, executions, implementations and report

    Facilities Management

    • Collaborate with the Facilities Director and the Board’s Facilities committee to maintain, safeguard and preserve the physical assets of the organization and to ensure safe operations of all facilities and programs
    • Collaborate with the Facilities Director and the Board’s Facilities Committee to develop and
    • maintain a long-term plan for facilities maintenance and capital projects

    Human Resources Management

    • Collaborate with the HR Director and the Board’s Personnel a Committee to ensure proper staffing levels and compensation as well as following and implementing optimal practices and ensure that all legal requirements are met
    • Work with the HR department to continually develop and nurture employee engagement through the use of training and development, onboarding programs, and communication in partnership with the leadership team
    • Maintaining a respectful and positive, professional, and collaborative relationship with San Andreas Regional Center and all other funders and regulators

    Operations Management

    • Collaborate with the Board’s Personnel Committee to ensure that all programs are of the highest quality and remain in compliance with all regulatory and oversight body requirements
    • Working with clinical team leaders to ensure systems are in place to track progress and regularly evaluate effectiveness of the program

    Ideal Candidate Qualities and Qualifications

    Action oriented, entrepreneurial leader who enjoys leadership, building major funding relationships and partnerships, strengthening programs and the challenge of maintaining a strong, effective organization. You’re most fulfilled when empowering teammates to identify, leverage, and amplify their unique skills and talents.

    In addition, you bring:

    • At least 5 years of senior non-profit leadership and management experience. Financial management, board development, and communications/public relations skills are a must
    • At least 5 years of experience successfully managing direct reports, including building trust and fostering transparency and communication
    • Demonstrated skills in sound fiscal management including budget preparation, analysis, reporting and ongoing oversight as well as long-term planning
    • Demonstrated success developing and implementing fundraising growth plans, including increasing and diversifying revenue streams
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate in a variety of formats and venues in both casual and formal contexts
    • Direct experience working with a Board of Directors to cultivate existing and new board member relationships
    • Healthcare leadership experience preferred

    Salary and Benefits

    The salary range for this full-time, exempt in-person position is $150k to $180k annually. The Executive Director will work primarily from our 850 Congress Ave in Pacific Grove. Current benefits include:
