    About Us Founded in 2007, Hands Across the Sea is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving literacy skills among school-aged children in Eastern Caribbean countries. Recognized as the most effective nongovernmental organization in the region, we fulfill our mission through two flagship programs: Caribbean Literacy and School Support (CLASS) and the Early Pages Programme (EPP). These initiatives provide vital literacy resources and educational support to schools, libraries, and educators, while collaborating with local partners to create lasting educational impact.

    We are seeking an experienced, organized, and results-driven leader to join our team as the next Executive Director. In this dynamic role, the Executive Director will focus on building and sustaining strategic relationships, driving fundraising efforts, and leading a motivated team to advance our mission. The Executive Director will carry out the organization’s established strategy and vision, ensuring all operations are aligned with our long-term goals and mission.

    Position Summary The Executive Director will oversee the daily operations of the organization, provide leadership to staff, and manage relationships with donors and partners. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be responsible for executing the organization’s strategy and vision. This includes overseeing staff, managing financial resources, and ensuring the smooth delivery of programs and operational functions.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fundraising & Donor Relations

    Lead and manage fundraising efforts, including cultivating and maintaining donor relations, corporate sponsorships, and grant writing.

    Develop and nurture long-term relationships with key donors, ensuring transparent communication about program impact and financial stewardship.

    Coordinate fundraising campaigns and events to meet revenue goals and support the organization’s sustainable growth.

    Oversee the organization’s donor database, ensuring data is accurately managed, up-to-date, and leveraged for effective donor engagement and retention strategies.

    Leadership & Operational Management

    Provide leadership to a remote team, ensuring staff alignment with the organization’s strategic goals and providing support in their roles.

    Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring effective communication, project management, and task delegation across all departments.

    Ensure all departments are thriving, with programs being effectively scaled and delivered in alignment with the organization’s mission.

    Monitor program outcomes and collaborate with program staff to ensure effective execution, making adjustments as needed to meet goals.

    Program Oversight & Delivery

    Ensure educational resources (including books) are distributed efficiently and programs align with the organization’s mission and objectives.

    Work with program officers and stakeholders to ensure community partners and local schools are actively engaged.

    Book Ordering & Logistics

    Oversee the timely procurement of materials and manage the book ordering process with vendors.

    Manage logistics for the shipping and receiving of books, coordinating with international customs to ensure smooth operations and regulatory compliance.

    Work with vendors, partners, and customs officials to resolve any challenges in international shipping to ensure timely delivery of resources.

    Technology Oversight

    Manage the organization’s website, ensuring it is user-friendly, up-to-date, and aligned with promoting the mission effectively.

    Collaborate with internal staff or external partners to ensure website content, functionality, and security are optimized.

    Leverage technology to enhance communication, donor engagement, and program management, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.

    Financial Oversight & Budget Management

    Manage the organization’s budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and aligned with strategic goals.

    Provide regular financial reporting to the Board of Directors, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial matters.

    Oversee financial stewardship and ensure the organization operates within budgetary constraints while maintaining financial sustainability.

    Partnership Development & Community Engagement

    Serve as the primary representative for the organization, cultivating relationships with donors, government officials, community leaders, and key stakeholders.

    Develop and manage strategic partnerships with educational organizations, local governments, and international partners to ensure program sustainability and expansion.

    Board Engagement & Reporting

    Work closely with the Board to ensure operations remain aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

    Provide regular updates on fundraising, program performance, operational progress, and financial health.

    Assist the Board in its fundraising efforts and support board member recruitment as needed.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

    At least 5 years of nonprofit leadership experience, with a focus on fundraising, donor relations, and program implementation.

    Proven experience managing large-scale projects or programs; operational experience preferred but not required.

    Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a remote team.

    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in relationship management and stakeholder engagement.

    Experience in financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and oversight of organizational finances.

    Experience in managing website and online systems, with an understanding of digital communications strategies.

    Ability to travel as needed for program management and partner development.

    Compensation Annual salary of $80K-100K, plus healthcare benefits and eligibility for the organization’s flexible PTO policy.
