The Executive Director of Surgical Services is responsible for leadership of People (20%) and Processes (80%).
People: responsible for management and oversight of procedural scheduling, charge capture, and related audit functions.
Process: performs analysis of surgical services business, financial performance, and key performance indicators to support operational and strategic needs of the department(s). This includes designing procedures and methodologies for revenue enhancement/reporting, surgical access/utilization, and supply/cost analysis that support strategies for efficient delivery of high-quality patient care.
Job Responsibilities
1. Plans and implements objectives and goals for the department that are aligned with the mission and goals of the medical center.
2. Problem-solving and performs follow-up activities to respond to and resolve complex situations that arise.
3. Prepares data, publishes and trends reports that support Surgical Services operational plan and key performance indicators (i.e., block utilization, on time starts, cost variation, productivity, patient satisfaction, etc.).
4. Manages areas of responsibility to achieve desirable results within budget.
5. Operational Excellence: assesses and redesigns processes that align with operational excellence to achieve quality and cost targets.
6. Oversees scheduling of staffing resources to meet clinical demand and productivity targets.
7. Ensures monthly operational reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
8. Collaborates with leadership teams to promote innovation and drive continuous improvement of utilization, cost reduction, and quality of care.
9. In collaboration with Materials Management, oversees supply inventory and cost to meet budget by driving cost containment and reducing clinical variance.
i. Meets with vendors and evaluates product lines, offering suggestions for replacements with the theory of cost containment.
ii. Participates in the negotiation and implementation and compliance process.
iii. Collaborates closely with the surgeons and staff for a smooth transition.
10. Develop and manage action plans to meet desired goals and objectives.
11. Manages in accordance with regulatory and hospital policy and procedure.

Minimum- MBA or MHA
Preferred- MBA or MHA with Health Care Data Analytics
Work Experience:
Minimum
Two (2) years of experience as a service line director in healthcare operations; data management, data analytics, and report building
Preferred
Five (5) years of experience as a service line director in surgical operations and leadership
