  • Responsibilities

    The Exemption Support Specialist works with the Exemption Specialist, is responsible to the Deputy Chief of Administrative Support, operates data entry devices under minimum supervision, works directly with the public, and processes exemption applications.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Performs repetitive, basic data entry and verification

    Becomes familiar with program features and codes

    Learns to communicate with computer for information retrieval and verification without immediate physical document

    Learns to interpret and apply State Property Tax Code provisions to daily data entry and communication with taxpayers

    Interprets and applies State Property Tax Code provisions in processing residential homestead exemptions

    Works with staff appraisers to ensure that appraisals are current on the property on which exemptions are filed

    Review the applications and request additional information if needed

    Informs taxpayer in writing if does not qualify for exemptions

    Works harmoniously with taxpayers

    Answers questions from taxpayers and title companies

    Mails homestead exemptions for the next appraisal year

    Works with Exemption Specialists to process exemptions

    Education Requirement:

    Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certification

    Required Qualifications:

    Data entry proficiency

    Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

    Excellent letter-writing skills using proper grammar

    Experience working with the public

    General office experience, including ten-key calculator

    In-house training under Supervisor on direct data entry device

    Ability to demonstrate obtained knowledge of software programs and information retrieval

    Mental alertness to detect and resolve error conditions

    Judgment in selecting and transcribing data from documents that have not been pre-examined or coded to assure minimum, verified input on accounts

    Ability to work under pressure of rigid cycles of fluctuating production schedules

    Ability to follow oral and written instructions

    Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone and directly with taxpayers

    Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees

    Ability to arrive at work on time

    Ability to work overtime during certain periods of the year
