    Team Overview

    The external communications team is dedicated to executing integrated communication strategies and building relationships with key external stakeholders to elevate our market leadership and social impact. We aim to drive meaningful engagement, foster dialogue within the industry, and enhance our reputation as a responsible, purpose-driven organization.

    Summary

    As the External Communications Manager for the Commercial division, you will play a key role in building strong connections between our business and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Vice President of External Communications, you will collaborate with teams across the organization to develop content that resonates with our target audiences and supports the broader business goals.

    With a proven track record in driving results through collaboration, your focus will be on creating and implementing engaging, educational content for our audience. You will work on social media strategy, corporate blog content, earned media, and direct customer communications support.

    This role is based in Parsippany, NJ, with a hybrid work model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) and occasional travel to other facilities and events as needed.

    Essential Duties

    Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Gain a deep understanding of the business, its products, core audiences (such as architects, specifiers, building owners, and commercial contractors), the industry landscape, and corporate positioning, translating this knowledge into compelling content that reinforces our leadership.
    • Collaborate with product management teams to plan communications and content that balances customer interests with business objectives.
    • Represent the External Communications team in marketing planning meetings to align on business priorities, timelines, and support initiatives across channels.
    • Partner with the communications Center of Excellence (CoE) to develop integrated communications plans for earned media, highlighting product announcements, customer stories, and thought leadership. Write press releases, talking points, web and social media copy, and other key communications materials.
    • Lead social media and blog content strategy, ensuring it meets business and audience needs on owned channels. Oversee content ideation, development, and execution, working with creative services and external partners as necessary.
    • Manage the editorial workflow for blog content, collaborating with stakeholders and ensuring content is optimized and ready for publication on schedule.
    • Work with the CoE to integrate content into editorial calendars for earned, social media, and blog channels.
    • Collaborate with the CoE on proactive and reactive social media engagement with followers. Serve as the point of escalation for social media inquiries.
    • Use analytics and reporting tools to track earned media, social media, and blog performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
    • Conduct competitive analysis and market trend monitoring through social listening tools, sharing insights to inspire new ways to engage audiences.
    • Engage directly with customers to understand their needs and gather insights (e.g., sales ride-alongs, events, virtual meetings).
    • Provide communications support to key customers, amplifying their success and community impact through external visibility.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
    • 7-10+ years of related experience.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with a proven ability to manage both strategy and details.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple stakeholders and manage content through to approval.
    • Ability to drive consensus across a diverse, cross-functional organization.
    • Familiarity with data analytics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
    • Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 10%).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Confident communicator, both written and verbal, across various stakeholder groups and levels.
    • Willingness to challenge the status quo and explore new opportunities.
    • Knowledge of media relations with a proven ability to secure coverage in support of business objectives.
    • Experience with social media platforms and community management, including enterprise tools for engagement, reporting, and listening.
    • Experience with blog/SEO best practices, content marketing platforms, and workflow management.
