    Position Summary:

    The Facilities Chief Engineer is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the operation, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all campus building systems and equipment. This includes overseeing life safety systems, HVAC, and utilities to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for residents and staff. The Facilities Chief Engineer will lead the facilities and maintenance teams, ensuring the successful execution of preventive maintenance and timely response to service requests, while also collaborating with other departments to support overall campus goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the operation of all building systems, including life safety, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring optimal performance.
    • Lead and supervise a team of maintenance personnel in carrying out preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for the entire campus.
    • Implement and oversee the preventive maintenance program for all campus buildings and systems.
    • Regularly inspect facilities, identify repair needs, and prioritize tasks to ensure the safety and functionality of the physical plant.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, local health and safety codes, and environmental regulations.
    • Collaborate with department leaders to promote efficient resource sharing and support overall campus goals.
    • Participate in the development and management of the facilities budget, ensuring cost-effective operation and maintenance.
    • Respond promptly to emergencies and service requests, providing leadership during urgent situations such as inclement weather or other disruptions.
    • Oversee staff training on safety protocols, emergency response, and building systems.
    • Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency situations, including weekends and holidays.

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required; advanced certification in engineering, HVAC, or plant operations preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in facilities management, building systems operation, and equipment management, with an emphasis on utilities and life safety systems.
    • 5+ years of supervisory experience, ideally in a healthcare, residential, or senior living environment.
    • HVAC certification and knowledge of life safety systems are required.
    • Valid Driver’s License required.
    • Proficiency in facilities management software and basic computer skills.
    • Strong ability to work with diverse teams and communicate effectively, especially in resident areas.

    Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
    • Must be able to work in emergency situations, including staying on-site during severe weather or other emergencies.
    • Participation in an on-call rotation is required, including weekends and holidays.

    Work Environment:

    • The position operates within a large senior living campus, requiring flexibility to work across different environments, from mechanical areas to resident living spaces.
    • May be called upon to assist with resident evacuations or other critical safety events.
