Mercy Center is a comprehensive community center that has been creating opportunities for women, men and families in the South Bronx to grow and thrive through education, family, civic, social and economic programs for nearly 35 years. NYC Kids Rise Save for College initiative is a scholarship and savings program designed to make college and career training more accessible and achievable for all NYC public school students. In partnership with Mercy Center Youth Programs and the Qualitas of Life Foundation, the project will support families in the South Bronx community in saving for their children’s futures.
We are seeking a Family Outreach & Enrollment Coordinator to implement the NYC Kids Rise Save for College initiative within NYC Public Schools District 7. Reporting to the Program Manager and Director of Youth Programs, the Family Outreach & Enrollment Coordinator will promote program enrollment within the school district, directly assist families with the sign-up process, and support parents in opening bank accounts and college savings accounts. They will visit schools, conduct community presentations and participate in other community events. The Family Outreach & Enrollment Coordinator will participate in the Save for College Program learning community, attend all necessary trainings, and assist with reporting required by NYC Kids RISE. This is a full-time, 40 hour/week in-person position that will require flexibility in scheduling to include occasional evening and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
Master >span class="NormalTextRun SCXW237590905 BCX0"> Save for College Program and college savings account materials and present the information in a variety of settings, answer parent questions and work individually with parents
Conduct direct outreach to participating parents in person, via phone, text and/or email in order to explain the program and engage them to complete the foundational steps
Facilitate informational workshops about the Save for College Program
Provide one-on-one navigational and technical support for parents/guardians in viewing their scholarship accounts, opening and linking their own college savings accounts and making deposits;
Ensure timely follow up and support to participating parents, including appropriate referrals as needed
Provide feedback and generate new ideas for ways that NYC Kids RISE can support parents to understand the program and complete the foundational steps
Represent Mercy Center with community stakeholders
Complete timely data entry to capture all interactions with participating parents and other key data points such as workshop attendance
Maintain strict adherence to NYC Kids RISE data security and privacy policies
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in related field plus four years’ experience preferred -or- Associate’s degree plus six years of relevant experience
Bilingual in Spanish required
Strong oral and/or written communication skills; proficient public speaking skills
Experience with New York City elementary education settings
Interest in or previous work experience in financial empowerment and/or college and career readiness
Proficiency in MS/Google Suite and in Zoom/Google Meet/MS Teams or other video meeting technology
Ability to lead presentations and / or facilitate workshops/events in English and Spanish
Ability to walk someone through the technical aspects of a registration, enrollment or application process in English and Spanish
Experience with New York City elementary educational settings
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
Ability to work as part of a team and use self-initiative
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
This position works primarily in office settings and in the communities of the South Bronx
Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather, sometimes standing or walking for extended periods
Ability to lift and transport materials (5 lbs)
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
