    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY

    Feeding San Diego operates an innovative and forward-thinking decentralized food rescue program that has been providing nutritious meals, at no cost, for people facing hunger throughout San Diego County for 15 years.   Food donors such as local grocery stores, retailers, manufacturers, wholesale distributors, farmers and restaurants, to name a few, help make this possible.  Our team is seeking an enthusiastic individual to be one of our FOOD RESCUE COORDINATORS who will assist in the day-to-day management of these important contributors. He/she/they will communicate with donors on a regular basis, provide exceptional customer service as it relates to food assortment, donation criteria, pickups, training in proper food rescue practices, data collection and volume analysis. Our Food Rescue Coordinators are friendly, highly organized, enjoy building good relationships with customers, are great communicators and more importantly, have a passion for helping others. 

    ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides professional, responsive and appreciative customer service to all food donors, volunteers, food recipients and co-workers
    • Conducts face-to-face visits and meetings with current and prospective donors on a daily basis (10 visits a week, on average) to maintain a good relationship, resolve any issues, recommend additional culturally appropriate and nutritious product assortments, respectfully educate and ensure food rescue best practices and followed
    • Maintains current and accurate updates and data in multiple platforms, such as a CRM (Customer Relationship Management), regularly pulls and analyzes reports
    • Collaborates with other departments in order to resolve food safety and/or pickup concerns
    • Assists with regular food rescue trainings as well as distribution of equipment and collateral
    • All other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    MINIMUM:

    High School diploma or GED

    Commitment to FSD’s mission: “Ending Hunger through Food Rescue”

    A minimum of 2 years of professional experience with competing priorities, deadlines and multi-tasking, strong people/customer skills and a passion for serving others

    Experience in data entry, collection and analysis

    Strong written and verbal communication skills;

    Must have exceptional time management and organization skills and successfully balance progress on strategic projects with day-to-day responsibilities

    PREFERRED:

    Bachelor’s Degree

    Experience in the food service industry, outside sales or sales account management

    Strong proficiency in Windows 8, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook

    Experience working in a constituent records management system (CRM,) preferably Salesforce and/or Smartsheet (project management)

    Food handler’s safety certificate (can obtain once hired)

    Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

    Located in Central San Diego

    Conversant in Spanish

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

    Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California commercial driver’s license including continuous proof of a satisfactory driving record and personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the Agency’s insurance carrier standards.

    PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Sit and/or stand for extended periods, walk, bend at the waist and knees, kneel and uses hands, arms and legs for dexterity

    Regularly lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 50 pounds

    Preform work in a cooler and freezer

    40% travel within Central San Diego
