General Summary:
Responsibilities:
Exhibits behavior that supports a person-directed culture of care where each resident has a voice and choice in decision-making regarding their plan of care.
Investigates sensitive and complex resident care problems and guides staff in the analysis and resolution of such problems. Investigates and resolves complaints from residents, family members and physicians through direct action and intervention. Consults and collaborates with Provincial Health Services Management.
Enforces policies and procedures regarding resident care, personnel issues, medical care, financial operations, public relations, health services area maintenance and communicates such policies and procedures to staff and other parties.
Maintains positive relationships with Provincial management, medical and nursing staff, contract providers, residents and family members, employees, visitors, and other individuals who have contact with the Health Services Department.
Maintains positive relationships and collaborates with the sisters and the sister leadership team in carrying out job responsibilities.
Oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of any plans of correction.
Participates with Health Services staff in fostering a work environment conducive to productive performance, personal development, and job satisfaction. Encourages open communication.
Responsible for ensuring that required department staffing ratios are met on a daily basis.
Directs all financial and operational activities of the Health Services Department as directed by the Provincial Director of Health Services Operations. Cooperates and coordinates with the Accounting and Finance Department in matters pertaining to the financial responsibilities of the Health Services Department.
Monitors the financial status of the Health Services Department and implements corrective action as appropriate to meet established financial goals and budgetary parameters.
Works with the Director of Health Service Operations on the operating budget on an annual basis. Identifies capital expenditures as indicated and seeks review and approval for such expenses.
Meets regularly with the health care providers, physicians, and Director of Nursing to address quality of care and quality of life issues for residents.
Coordinates services through agreements and/or contracts with vendors.
Oversees all employee relations including recruitment, orientation, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, terminations, job description updates, training, staff development, and enforcement of policies and procedures in collaboration with Provincial Human Resources staff.
Communicates and collaborates with the Provincial Human Resources staff regarding various human resources issues, questions, and overall personnel management.
Ensures all nursing staff are properly trained and certified to perform job duties. Oversees and monitors in-service training activities.
Monitors care plans on each resident to promote the delivery of quality health care. Review and monitor medical outcomes, social outcomes, and resident satisfaction in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
Coordinates with other departments to ensure a complete spectrum of care is provided in a quality environment.
Collaborates with staff to ensure that all medical appointments are scheduled as required.
Participates in Health Services program development activities.
Is available during nights and weekends to address concerns or emergencies that may arise.
Attends and participates in meetings, committees, seminars, conferences, and in-service training programs as directed.
