We are looking for a Field Commissioning Engineer in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) to provide comprehensive engineering, commissioning, and start-up support for our distributed generation projects. This typically includes managing a variety of DER and microgrid assets – such as solar, energy storage, controls, and reciprocating engines.
The role is ideally based in the NJ Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT), but we are generally flexible, as it will require significant travel to our project states and factory site in Green Bay, WI, for up to 2 weeks at a time.
Key responsibilities include:
Site Testing: (NJ/NY/CT/MA/MD/DC/CA/PA)
- Instructing customers and others on the operation and maintenance of equipment as needed.
- Start-up, commission, service, and repair of customer equipment.
- Performing OEM warranty work and start-up service.
- Performing testing, calibration, checking, correcting, adjusting, and part component replacement services on customer products.
- Constructing and testing circuits and equipment.
- Providing technical support in product service, product training, and applications.
- Analyzing complex problems in equipment and machinery and interpreting maintenance manuals, using knowledge of systems and electronics to isolate and correct the faults.
- Consulting with product support and engineering personnel to determine solutions to complex problems in system operation.
- Developing and implementing workaround modifications as needed.
- Developing and maintaining ongoing customer relationships regarding all aspects of equipment operation, repair, and maintenance.
Factory Testing (Green Bay, WI):
- Leading the factory test of our equipment, with the assistance of a control engineer.
- Producing proper setup and download of all ComAp, PLC, and controls software required to start up and run units.
- Connecting P.C. for monitoring and storing test run data.
- Conducting tests of units at various loads and comparing them to OEM factory test sheets to ensure similar results.
- Conducting sound and emissions tests.
- Ensuring all coms/ communications are functional for the monitoring system.
- Ensuring all sensors for data transducers are functional and calibrated.
- Inspect equipment for proper installation by contractors.
The Ideal Candidate
- Two-year degree or technical certification in an electrical-related program and/or 5+ years of work experience as a shop or field electrical technician.
- Exhibit knowledge of control circuits and PLCs –gas engine controls, switchgear controls, generator installation, solar inverters, and repair, and a willingness to learn others as needed.
- Understanding of specific standards included in the EGSA certification
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic distribution protective relay testing, breaker function testing, and generator testing.
- Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
