Responsibilities
As a Field Refrigeration Technician with our Client, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality ultra-low temperature refrigeration systems. Specifically, you will install, build, and service these systems, focusing on brazing refrigeration components and tubing, accurately charging refrigerants, and following detailed engineering plans. You will also work with chilled water piping, insulation, and perform basic assembly tasks. A successful Field Refrigeration Technician will bring a high level of skill, precision, and attention to detail to ensure the systems meet strict quality and leak standards.
This position involves extensive travel, with over 80% of the time spent on the road both domestically and internationally. This is a full-time role with travel on short notice, and trips may exceed three weeks. After training, most assignments will involve solo travel.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers on cross-functional product development teams.
- Provide technical support to internal teams including Sales, Purchasing, and Service departments, and assist with customer orders and product maintenance.
- Develop and release bills of materials, drawings, and work procedures to manufacturing.
- Participate in continuous cost reduction initiatives and product improvement efforts.
- Conduct testing and analysis of refrigeration systems, and develop test plans and procedures as needed.
- Estimate costs for custom design features to support Sales in generating customer quotations.
- Interface with both internal and external customers to ensure products meet performance, quality, and capability expectations.
- Communicate and collaborate with vendors, sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure project success.
- Travel up to 50% domestically and internationally to support system installations and customer needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of single-stage, multi-stage, and LN2-cooled refrigeration systems (LN2 experience a plus).
- Strong understanding of state variables, heat loss values, and refrigeration system components.
- Familiarity with electromechanical control systems, ladder logic, and PID control loops (a plus).
- Ability to develop detailed specifications, test plans, and traceability matrices.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or CREO for creating and understanding engineering models and drawings.
- Familiarity with UL and CE standards is a plus.
- Strong background in refrigeration, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics, including component sizing and selection.
- Experience with component layout, sheet metal design, welding, and piping design.
- Controls and automation experience and experience in ISO-9000 environments are advantageous.
- Capable of working independently and within larger, cross-functional teams.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and refrigeration schematics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in business and engineering software, including specialized tools for calculation, selection, and simulation.
Education/Experience
- Trade school, Associate's degree, or completion of a certified technical training program in HVAC or refrigeration (Journeyman certification preferred).
- 2+ years of refrigeration experience, including hands-on knowledge of components, brazing, refrigerant charging, and reclaiming.
- Experience with electromechanical control systems and refrigeration-related software.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and email applications.
