FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Pester USA is currently looking for a Field Service Technician
Location: Charlotte, NC area
POSITION SUMMARY:
Primarily responsible for servicing and installing our packaging machines as well as training operators at our location in NC and various customer sites throughout the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
May need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 per customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Additional Duties may be assigned.
Field Work: • Machine Start-up: Initial setup of new machinery • Servicing of Machines: Troubleshooting and repairing issues on existing equipment in the field at clients site • New format installations: Set-up and testing of new design format parts for new products on existing equipment • Machine evaluations: Conduct complete evaluation of machines condition on the field to restore to factory specifications. • Training customer’s technicians/operators • Conducting warranty visits • Preventative Maintenance: Assessing and implementing PM (replacement of worn parts and if necessary recommendation of spare parts) • Approximately 70% - 75% travel is required to customer sites • Travel to customers within a 4 hour driving distance should be driven to. Any customers that are more than 4 hours driving distance should be reached via air travel. • 3-5 weeks of training will be needed in Germany on a yearly basis. Initial training in Germany for about two consecutive months. • Remote/In-house technical Work: • Provide phone support as needed • Provide remote support as needed
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• College degree or equivalent is required • Experience with Allen Bradley family controls • Elau controls experience a plus • Kuka robotic experience also a plus • Mechatronics • A strong aptitude of machine construction, particularly in the areas of electronics, wiring, robotics and automation • Basic programming skills • Excellent typing and computer skills, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, QuickBooks, e-mail and internet • Strong customer service and communication skills • Proficient in German language a plus • Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus • Previous experience in packaging machine installations preferred • Previous service/repair experience in packaging machinery industry
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: • Must be able to physically perform the following functions for extended periods of time: kneeling, crawling, squatting, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, climbing, stooping and performing repetitive motions. • Must be able to climb and stand on ladder for long periods • Must be able to carry and/or lift up to 65lbs or more at a time • Must be able to work 10-to-12-hour days for multiple days as needed during installations and troubleshooting periods • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects • Must be able to travel (domestic and international) for extensive periods of time via car and/or air travel and be able to carry tool kit (approximate weight of 65 pounds), laptop (approximate weight of 35-40 pounds) and personal items (ie: luggage) • Must be able to handle stress well as certain situations can cause on the job stress (ie: travel delays, an unsatisfied customer because loss of machine productivity due to machine being down, etc.)
RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS: Internal contact with Service Department and Pester office staff. External contact with customers. This position reports to the Service Operations Manager. Must be willing to relocate to the Charlotte, NC area
