  • Responsibilities

    Our hospitality client is seeking a Financial Controller to lead financial reporting, management, and internal controls. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the executive team to ensure accuracy and compliance, while also driving strategic financial planning and initiating informed decision-making. This position will require someone in the Chicago, IL area.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    Financial Reporting:

    • Preparing and publishing financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements).

    • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.

    • Analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.

    Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Developing and managing budgets and financial forecasts.

    • Monitoring actual performance against budgets and identifying variances.

    Internal Controls:

    • Establishing and maintaining strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy.

    • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls making updates and suggestions for improvement as necessary.

    Cash Flow Management:

    • Overseeing cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet obligations.

    • Monitoring and managing accounts receivable and payable.

    Compliance:

    • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.

    • Coordinating with external auditors and regulatory agencies.

    Leadership and Supervision:

    • Supervising and managing accounting staff.

    • Providing guidance and training to the accounting team.

    Strategic Planning:

    • Contributing to the development of financial strategies and plans.

    • Analyzing financial data to support strategic decision-making.

    Other Duties:

    • Managing payroll and related taxes.

    • Coordinating with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

    • Identifying and implementing cost-saving measures.

    WHAT YOU NEED:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and finance.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Must be proficient in written and oral communication.

    • Ability to lead and supervise a team, delegate tasks, and motivate and train junior colleagues on responsibilities.

    • Proficiency in multiple accounting and finance systems.

    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CA (Chartered Accountant) preferred.
