    Job Description

    Coffman Engineers is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer who will be a Spring 2025 graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in engineering. The successful candidate will have a desire to work, grow, and have fun with a multi-discipline engineering team. They are passionate about engineering and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth and technical excellence.

    The ideal candidate will have a fire protection engineering degree; however, an engineering degree in other fields (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) with a desire/willingness to learn are highly encouraged to apply. The successful individual will have a passion for protecting lives from fire risks in the built environment.

    This position will support the team in providing our clients with: life safety code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant rated construction analysis; automatic suppression system design and analysis; fire detection, alarm and communication system design and analysis; smoke control system design and special inspections; site inspections and witnessing of life safety system testing; fire hazard analysis; performance-based design; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts.

    The Anchorage Fire Protection Engineering department collectively has 60+ years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering across our department of five, all of whom will provide the successful candidate with training, mentorship, and support to help grow your career. We enjoy working together collaboratively in the office and supporting each other to deliver engineering solutions that make the world a safer place.

    Qualifications

    ** Requirements Include:**

    • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in engineering from accredited college or university. Fire Protection specific degree preferred; Mechanical, Electrical, Civil degrees highly encouraged to apply.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills.
    • Ability to work on a highly-motivated team, think outside the box, and be proud of the work you do.

    ** Desired Skills & Duties:**

    • Possess technical writing skills.
    • Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphics.
    • Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
    • Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
    • Performing research and documents for internal and external distribution.
    • Desired skills or willingness to learn:
      • Building and fire code analysis and code interpretations.
      • Preparation of life safety plans.
      • Analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systems
      • Utilization of AutoCAD, Revit to prepare fire protection system designs.
