    Salty Angler Head Counselor Job Description Salty Angler Head Counselor must be; independent-working, organized, and creative. Able to with children ages 7 to 13 in an outdoor camp setting from June 9 – Aug 1. This is a summer position based on enrollment; hours typically vary from 36 - 40 hours per week. He/she must be able to develop, coordinate, and implement age-appropriate lessons, with a strong focus on fishing and natural, biological, marine and environmental sciences. A passion for fishing and the environment is a must! There is a budget for materials and the Head Counselor will be responsible for maintaining supply inventory and budget invoices. An outline of all projects is required by May 18th.

    Job Description and Schedule:

    • Attend and complete Staff Training, FYCCN Fishing Training and have a current First Aid/ CPR certification • The week prior to camp o Maintain and inventory the Fishing Equipment o Develop and Deliver Lesson Plans for 7 weeks of Camp (work with Associate/ On-site Director)  Age appropriate- with measurable goals  Materials list to be ordered before camp begins – office will order  Printed and turned in to Director/BOD for approval prior to the start of camp

    • During Camp Season o Making sure you communicate with On-site Director at the beginning of each week- what you will be doing and if needed requesting an LIT to assist with the Program o Arrive at Camp by 8 am to set up program for the day  Covering tables- setting out equipment – scouting area to run program  Delivering lessons making sure to rotate campers out of the sun to teach the skills and topics covered in the Fish Florida Grant o Collect Data for grants/ requested by Associate Director – you can assign this to an LIT or JR Counselor as part of their help during your lessons o Spend one day a week cleaning, repairing and returning equipment/materials from the week prior. o Attend field trips as a chaperone. Making sure you arrive early to greet parents and campers.

    Our camp has been in South Florida for over 35 years and has an excellent reputation for educational activities and fun adventures, so the ideal candidate will love working with kids, the environment and of course, science!

    Location: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

    Requirements: • MUST have experience TEACHING fishing to children. Sample of previous works a plus. • Experience with elementary and/or middle school education. • Ability to work outdoors all-day rain or shine. • Love Fishing!!! • References required.
