Fitness Coordinator
About Us & Overview of the Position
The Boys & Girls Club (BGC) in Geneva is an organization committed to providing safe, educational, & engaging opportunities for local youth. The children who attend (“members”) are provided with food, homework assistance, learning activities, & recreational time. The Fitness Coordinator will be in charge of planning & implementing a variety of physical activities & games during our out-of-school programs (after school throughout the school year, & during summer break).
Proposed Job Description/Duties & Responsibilities
Prioritize the health & safety of all youths, adhering to NY State Childcare Regulations, site Health & Safety Plans, & BGC Employee Handbook
Plan, organize, prepare, & lead physical activities for youths: encourage members to try new activities, teach various types of sports & games, promote good sportsmanship – with an emphasis on skills, cooperation, & teamwork over “winning”
Provide adequate, engaged supervision for the youths in your area/group
Ability to work in a face-paced environment
Safeguard confidentiality of members
Set-up & clean-up area before & after use
Take accurate attendance during daily programs
Conduct daily safety checks, health checks, & periodic drills, as required
At all times maintain a professional appearance demeanor reflective of the high level of quality,standards, & expectations promoted by BGC
Participate in weekly site meetings & 1-on-1 meetings with supervisor
Alert supervisor to any safety concerns or other issues that may impact the health & well-being of youths in the program
Transport youths to & from program in BGC vehicles, as needed
Required Qualifications
At least 18 years of age
Driver’s license, ability to drive BGC-owned vehicles, willingness to assist with transportation
Communication & organization skills
Knowledge & understanding of a wide variety of physical games & activities, ranging from organizedsports (basketball, baseball, soccer) to yoga, dance, stretching, relay races & more!
Willingness to lead physical activities inside & outside
Flexibility, willingness to step up & step in to help, as needed
Dedication to acting with maturity, professionalism, & respect to coworkers, youths & families ability to work with youths & adults from various backgrounds (including, but not limited to: age, socioeconomic status, race, sexual orientation, ability…)
Commitment to being a positive role model for youths, encouraging inclusion, teamwork, good sportsmanship, growth mindset, & kindness/respect
Work Environment This is a part-time, in-person position, serving at one or both of our two Geneva sites. The employee in this position will report to the Site Supervisor at their location, & will be expected to demonstrate a high level of maturity, professionalism, patience, & respect. The anticipated pay rate is $18/hour, with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday. During the school year, employees in this position will work after-school and during school breaks when we have program, at least 2 or 2:30 to 6:30pm, plus additional mandatory trainings (announced in advance). In the summer, Fitness Coordinators will work 11:30am to 6pm, Monday through Thursday, plus 8 or 9am to 6pm on Fridays, and full-days, unless directed otherwise.
