FITNESS TRAINER JOB DESCRIPTION
Our Fitness Trainers are the HEARTBEAT of the gym! The Planet Fitness trainer is our fitness ambassador and a key member of the Planet Fitness team. This individual is largely responsible for the member experience in club, particularly the successful execution of the PE@PF Program. They are there to help develop a comfort level and confidence within our members utilizing 4 key attributes: Engagement, Support, and Promotion while effectively sharing their knowledge of health and wellness. Our enthusiastic Trainers conduct small group training sessions which allow members to learn proper form, fitness concepts, and how to connect the dots between exercise and functional movements for everyday life activities. They contribute to the Member Experience by communicating relevant fitness information, product knowledge of the gym equipment, and supplemental utilization of the PF App.
Daily Fitness Trainer Task:
❏ Designs individual exercise programs for each member based on their exercise experience, medical background, and personal goals
❏ Trains Planet Fitness members during PE@PF small group training sessions
❏ Create class schedules and all training programs
❏ Continually assists with inspecting all equipment for possible malfunction or damage
❏ Tracks and records PE@PF success metrics
❏ Cleans and maintains the club equipment
❏ Monitors the primary workout areas to make sure that members are using the equipment appropriately
Other Daily Responsibilities of the Fitness Trainer:
❏ Greet members/guests as they enter and exit the club; assisting them with any questions or concerns as they check in.
❏ Answer phones in a friendly manner and assist callers with their inquiries
❏ Assisting with new member Welcome calls
❏ Regular, consistent cleaning and sanitizing of all exercise equipment and Black Card spa amenities. This includes communal spaces as well as your assigned area.
❏ Stocks supplies as appropriate
❏ Ensuring restrooms are clean and sanitized, stocked and clutter free by following the routine cleaning schedule
❏ Attend bi-monthly education webinars hosted by PFHQ
❏ Attend monthly trainer huddles hosted by our team via Zoom
Planet Fitness Trainer’s scope of practice:
• Developing and implementing exercise programs that are safe, effective, and appropriate for individuals who are apparently healthy or have medical clearance to exercise
• Conducting health history interviews in order to determine the need for referral and to identify any contraindications for exercise
• Assisting members in setting and achieving realistic fitness goals
• Teaching correct exercise form and technique, including progressions and regressions, through demonstration, explanation, and proper cueing and spotting techniques
• Empowering individuals to begin and adhere to their exercise programs using guidance, support, motivation, lapse prevention strategies, and effective feedback
• Designing structured exercise programs for individuals and small groups
• Educating members about fitness- and health-related topics to help them in adopting healthful behaviors that facilitate exercise program success
• Referring members to other healthcare professionals when appropriate
• Being prepared for emergency situations and responding appropriately when they occur
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRMENTS:
A passion for fitness and health!
Upbeat and positive attitude.
Punctuality and reliability a must.
Exceptional customer service skills; able to interact in a positive and professional way with members and co-workers, exceeding the member’s expectations.
Strong listener with the ability to empathize and problem solve.
Demonstrate diplomacy in all interactions while using appropriate behavior and language.
6-12 months experience in a customer service environment is preferred
Current CPR/AED Certification. Must be kept current and up to date
Nationally Certified Training Certificate required through one of the following organizations, American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Council on Strength & Fitness (NCSF), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) We are willing to work with those who are currently in training if by one of these accredited organizations.
Continuing trainer education requirements each year
High School diploma/GED equivalent required
Must be 18 year of age or older
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office: Word and Excel)
Ability to pass a background check
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Continual standing and walking during shift
· Continual talking in person or on the phone during shift
· Must be able to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.
· Will encounter toxic chemicals during shift
· Frequent cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities
· Moving self in different positions, including bending and twisting, to accomplish tasks
