CONTEXT: We are seeking an experienced Fleet & Asset Manager to develop, implement, and oversee all aspects of our fleet maintenance, asset management, and operational efficiency. This is not a position for someone looking to clock in and out from 8-5—we need a leader who takes ownership, stays ahead of issues, and ensures that our fleet is operating at peak performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement a comprehensive fleet maintenance program to maximize uptime and longevity.
- Develop and enforce preventative maintenance schedules to minimize breakdowns and costly repairs.
- Oversee DOT compliance and all regulatory requirements, ensuring a 100% compliant fleet at all times.
- Evaluate and implement fleet management software to track performance, maintenance, and costs.
- Manage fuel, parts inventory, and procurement processes to control costs and improve efficiency.
- Build and lead a high-performing fleet maintenance team, hiring and training mechanics, technicians, and support staff.
- Set performance expectations and hold the team accountable for safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Work closely with dispatch, plant managers, and operations to ensure fleet availability and reliability.
- Optimize vehicle utilization and deployment to support business growth and customer satisfaction.
- Serve as the key liaison between the fleet department and senior leadership, providing reports and strategic insights.
- Manage the fleet and maintenance budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiate vendor contracts for parts, repairs, fuel, and equipment purchases.
- Oversee parts inventory management and inventory processes to ensure accurate tracking and financial control.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of fleet management experience, preferably in the ready-mix, construction, or heavy trucking industry.
- Proven ability to build and implement systems, from maintenance programs to inventory management.
- Deep understanding of DOT regulations, safety compliance, and fleet best practices.
- Strong leadership skills, with a track record of building and developing teams.
- Hands-on problem solver—someone who is the first one in, the last one out, ensuring the job gets done.
- Experience with fleet management software, telematics, and maintenance tracking tools.
- Exceptional negotiation skills to manage vendor contracts and control costs.
