The Software Integration Engineer will support the Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) and the Surf Eagle Program by providing development and maintenance support for software and system architecture in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) field. The duty location is the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) in Monterey, California.
The Software Integration Engineer will work with system administrators to secure and maintain systems, with software developers to integrate custom software onto operational networks, and with network users to troubleshoot issues. Systems and networks range from unclassified to Top Secret/SCI on both Windows and Linux operating systems.
JOB DUTIES:
- Support software deployment efforts at FNMOC
- Develop proof-of-concept and prototype code for projects
- Assist software developers in code debugging by providing information about the system architecture, to include operating-system settings and policies, available software libraries for dependency resolution, and performance limitations based on hardware
- Communicate deployment instructions to system administrators to aid in installing custom software on restricted systems and networks
- Perform software installation and integration tasks where applicable
- Troubleshoot network and data transmission issues
- Support life-cycle replacement of custom software and coordinate patches and upgrades
- Compile technical reports on deployment efforts
Required Skills
- Competency with at least one programming language
- Strong technical writing and oral communication skills
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or relevant technical field
- 2 years’ experience as systems administrator or software developer
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of web-based requests and responses
- Knowledge of Python programming language
- Knowledge of Linux-based systems and architecture, specifically Red Hat
- Knowledge of databases and database management systems (e.g., SQLite)
- Experience with GIS tools such as Esri ArcGIS, GeoServer, and QGIS
- Certifications in networking, security, and system administration
- Experience with task management or program management at a supervisory level
- Active TS clearance with SCI eligibility is highly desired
