Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Food & Nutrition Services, provides food preparation and delivery services to include a variety of specialized duties related to the receipt, interpretation, and follow-through of patient diet orders. May be able to operate department software to support patient and retail services.
Responsible for the delivery and collection of meals to and from patients. Ensures that nutrition care diet orders are provided to the patient by offering appropriate menu selections. Acts as a liaison between the patient and the kitchen, communicates all patient food needs to the appropriate area of the department, assists the clinical staff in ensuring all patient basic nutrition care needs are met, maintains cleanliness of the kitchen and other assigned food and nutrition areas, receives cash from customers as payment for goods or services performs retail café duties ensuring service and merchandising standards by providing customers with prompt service, quality beverages and products and contribute to a friendly, upbeat and clean atmosphere. Takes charge of the department or area in the absence of managers and supervisors, or as otherwise assigned. Acts as a resource person for Food Service Workers.
Essential Tasks:
Maintains friendly, efficient, attitude towards customers, co-workers, patients, and visitors.
Sets up and maintains assigned work area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner to facilitate efficiency and ensure food safety.
Prepares beverages and food items to standard.
Performs cleaning tasks in accordance with the duty rosters and cleaning standards and works as a store team member.
Delivers patient meals during meal service.
Delivers nourishments and/or snacks to patients as ordered by physician/dietitian in a timely manner.
Visits patients to introduce the services of the Food and Nutrition Services Department. May obtain food preferences/dislikes from patient and/or family members.
Inventories and re-stocks pantries, refrigerator, and freezers on assigned unit(s). Maintains temperature logs for unit refrigerators and freezers.
Follows health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
Follows department policy and procedure for operational flow at each station.
Follows standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating, and storing products.
Follows all cash handling procedures and policies.
Cleans tables, counters and various types of retail and kitchen equipment and sweeps and mops floors.
Follows inventory stocking and recording guidelines.
Contributes to department goals for increasing sales.
Presents oneself professionally and demonstrates clear communication.
Welcomes and connects with every customer.
Discover customer needs and appropriately suggests product with every customer to enhance service.
Follows daily routine for cash register set-up involving duties such as: Efficient layout of cash drawer, confirm adequate supply of register tapes, point of sale merchandise, general housekeeping of register stand, register and scale.
Reconciles cash drawer at the end of the shift or as required. Ensures cash drawer is balanced and that all sales are properly recorded.
Records all appropriate meal information for volunteers, employees, and physicians. Submits all information to the designated person at the end of each shift.
Operates cash register by keying the correct items and ensuring the correct tender is collected.
Issues cash refunds or credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise.
Supports all aspects of catered functions, planning, setup, service and clean up.
Adheres to all established systems and training programs to provide a safe environment. Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state, and federal regulations.
Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Experience:
Two years’ experience preferred in healthcare food service setting preferred. Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively. Ability to apply elementary math functions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to work well under time constraints.
