The Skokie Country Club internship program is dedicated to giving the full experience of the private club industry to those who are truly passionate about a career in private clubs and hospitality, or if you want to experience working in a private club for the first time. Skokie Country Club is committed to providing an extraordinary experience that will provide the tools necessary to be successful in the private club and hospitality industries.
Skokie Country Club’s summer food and beverage internship program will provide a hands-on experience into understanding the necessary tools, procedures and work ethic needed to be successful in the food and beverage industry. This position will be centered around serving our membership in various areas the club. Service training areas will include restaurant dining, private dining, banquet dining, club and golf events. You will learn how to manage Member dining– speaking with Members, problem-solving and leading a team.
Interns will have the opportunity to meet with all upper-level management, including the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Food & Beverage Director, Catering Director, Controller, Director of Golf, Director of Grounds, and the Racquet Director. Interns will be expected to attend weekly operations meetings, F&B meetings and various other management meetings.
Upon completion of this program, interns will be well-rounded in entry level knowledge as to how a private club operates from a food and beverage prospective.
The ideal candidate must be enrolled in a four-year hospitality program or related field. This candidate must have an outgoing personality, exceptional communication skills, positive attitude and be team-oriented. He or she must possess a basic understanding of restaurant service techniques, beverage and wine knowledge, and be proficient in Microsoft Office, email and POS systems. The candidate must be honest, respectful, dedicated, caring and have a strong work ethic. He or she must be able to handle a fast paced, high-end, sophisticated work environment. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and committed to exceeding the expectations of the membership, their families and their guests.
Interns will be afforded the opportunity to attend CMAA Greater Chicago Chapter’s events, educational sessions, club tours, and meetings. In addition to education for all front-of-house wait staff on service techniques and wine seminars, we require all management interns to have a valid Illinois food handler and BASSET certification. All interns will be required to hold these certifications within two-weeks of the start of their program. We will help facilitate this process.
In addition to food and beverage service, interns will also have the opportunity to be exposed to other departments. Working alongside other department heads, interns can expect to be involved in pool events, private member events, tennis events, golf tournaments, youth activities and camp, HR, accounting, and other various club functions not directly related to food and beverage.
Interns living locally will not be offered living accommodations. For out of area interns, Skokie Country Club is pleased to offer living accommodations in our dormitory housing or rental apartment. He or she may have up to one room mate of the same gender. All interns will also be held to the standard of abiding by Skokie Country Club’s dormitory rules and regulations.
Interns should expect to be paid on an hourly basis with overtime pay when applicable. Interns can expect on working anywhere from 40-45 hours per week. Hourly rates will be discussed and agreed upon during the hiring process.
Uniforms will be provided for your respective departments as needed. You must provide your own black non-slip dress shoes, black socks, black dress pants, black sneakers and a few “business professional” outfits.
