Are you a people-person who loves networking? Do you have experience in the care of dogs, cats, and other small mammals, including very young or senior animals, or others with special needs? Have you managed a foster care program for a shelter or rescue?

If so, Humane Society Naples (HSN) invites you to apply for the position of Foster Coordinator. HSN is seeking an outgoing, organized, caring individual to recruit, train, and provide support for foster care providers who will provide temporary in-home care to dogs, cats, and other small animals in need.

    Responsibilities:

The Foster Coordinator will oversee an established foster care program that increases the sheltering capacity of HSN and ensures that special needs animals receive appropriate in-home care. Among the things you can expect to be doing on a regular basis are:

Engage in foster care provider recruitment to ensure a steady, sustainable, and diverse foster care pool

Maintain accurate foster care provider and animal location records

Conduct regular new and refresher foster care orientation and training, and other foster care meetings

Facilitate and schedule movement of animals into and out of foster care

Ensure foster care providers receive sufficient food, medications, and supplies

Monitor health and behavior of animals in foster care and report any important findings/issues

Schedule and coordinate vaccinations, treatments, and exams of animals in foster care with the Vet Department

Working with the Behaviorist and other personnel, advise on the management of basic behavioral issues

Communicate with the Foster Call Team (vet techs) to keep abreast of overnight medical situations

Oversee emergency placement to and/or return of animals from foster care in crisis situations (hurricanes)

Provide regular updates and disseminate shelter information to foster care providers

Update and maintain a Foster Care Manual

As needed, terminate foster care providers who fail to comply HSN policies and procedures

Advance personal knowledge of best practices in foster program management

Develop and promote a strong, positive, and respectful working relationship with foster care providers, staff, volunteers, and shelter companion animal residents

    Who are we looking for?

We are looking with someone with experience. You don't necessarily need foster program management experience, but we definitely want someone with prior experience in animal sheltering / animal rescue. Specifically, we'd like you to have these skills, abilities, and experience:

3 years animal shelter experience is required; paid experience is preferred but we'll take volunteer experience into consideration

1 year experience managing a foster program is preferred, but not required

Extensive knowledge of canine, feline, and other small mammal health, behavior, socialization, and husbandry/care/enrichment best practices. In other words, you really need to know a lot about dogs and cats, and maybe a little about rabbits and guinea pigs, and what it takes to care for them properly.

Familiarity with best practices in foster care provider recruiting and retention

Patience and tact with sensitive and passionate personnel involved in the care of shelter animals

Plays well with others -- both humans and non-humans!

Detail-oriented, positive, patient, compassionate, and flexible

Excellent writing and public speaking skills

Computer proficient, and willing & able to learn new software

Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish preferred but not required

    Schedule:

This is a full time job, 5 days per week, usually 8 am - 5 pm with an hour for lunch. You'll get two days off per week, but you may need to work weekends and some holidays in order to meet foster program needs.

    Compensation:

    $19/hr

A generous benefits package that includes

Medical, dental, and vision insurance at little cost to you. (Full disclosure: While dependent coverage is available, HSN does not contribute to the cost for adding family members to your plans.)

    Paid time off

$25,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you

Optional enrollment in supplemental insurance plans (disability, accident, etc.)

Optional enrollment in 403(b) retirement plan; matching contributions after one year of service

Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. HSN values diversity and wants to increase the diversity of our team. We are an equal opportunity employer.
