    Job Description

    NNM seeks a full-time Junior High Coach who will lead and oversee the Junior High Level which consists of ten teachers and seventy 7th and 8th grade students. Qualified candidates should possess a deep commitment to Montessori education and be trained Montessori educators with experience with students between the ages of 12-14. The Junior High Coach ensures that the educational program is delivered according to the school’s mission and vision. As the leader of this innovative program, the Junior High Coach should be a problem solver, a collaborator, a courageous leader, and a strong communicator.

    The Junior High Coach is one of 5 academic divisional leaders at NNM and reports directly to the Associate Head of School and Head of School. The Junior High Coach is a member of the school senior leadership team.

    The Junior High Coach is responsible for:

    • Organizing and directing the assigned instructional program of the school for the 12-14 level
    • Observing in Junior High classrooms weekly or bi-weekly and providing teachers with feedback for their practice, classroom management, and class
    • Familiarity with Near North Montessori Junior High Program and how it fits into Montessori adolescent work nationally and internationally
    • Providing bi-annual appraisals of Junior High faculty
    • Organizing processes for class placement
    • Supporting high school outplacement, meeting with 8th grade families, 8th grade students, and high school admissions officers
    • Collaborating with the Junior High team and master scheduler on 7th and 8th grade schedules
    • Informing and supporting professional development based on the interests and needs of the staff and the school community
    • Using a variety of data points to drive conversations about classroom practice and planning
    • Ensuring teaching and assessment tools are in alignment with the Montessori methodology and curriculum
    • Partnering with learning support staff for accommodations, IEP, 504, and behavior action plans
    • Analyzing student assessment data and making appropriate shifts in learning and instruction
    • Engaging families in level and school wide events and giving presentations related to Montessori education, the Junior High program, and high school outplacement
    • Writing a monthly communication to Junior High families
    • Fostering and leading dialogue and instituting culturally responsive teaching
    • Planning and facilitating a weekly Junior High Levels Meeting and a monthly faculty meeting
    • Overseeing student disciplinary decisions when necessary
    • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    The qualified candidate should possess the following qualifications:

    • Training as a Montessori Junior High Teacher and well-versed in adolescence development and Montessori pedagogy
    • 5 or more years of classroom experience with students ages 12-14
    • Supervisory or related leadership experience in an academic setting
    • Academic Coaching experience with classroom teachers (or a willingness to complete Coaching training and required readings)
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Experience and knowledge working with a diverse student and adult population
    • Experience with restorative practices and student behavior management
    • Experience and knowledge working with a diverse student and adult population and demonstrated knowledge and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion

    Additional Information

    The starting salary for this role is $95,000 annually
