Doral Health and Wellness is seeking a skilled and compassionate Full-time Unit Nurse to join our healthcare team. The Unit Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment for kidney failure or other renal conditions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nephrology nursing, possess excellent clinical skills, and be dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients before, during, and after dialysis treatment, including vital signs, fluid status, and overall well-being.
- Administer medications, including intravenous medications, as prescribed by the physician during dialysis treatment, ensuring accuracy and adherence to medication protocols.
- Monitor patients' dialysis treatment, including machine setup, access cannulation, and monitoring of dialysis parameters to ensure safe and effective therapy.
- Assess and manage patients' vascular access sites, such as fistulas, grafts, or catheters, including care, assessment for complications, and infection control measures.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient, ensuring continuity and coordination of care.
- Educate patients and their families about dialysis treatment, including the purpose, procedure, and potential complications, as well as self-care techniques and dietary restrictions.
- Perform routine and specialized nursing procedures related to dialysis, such as blood sampling, fluid removal, and dialyzer reprocessing, adhering to established protocols and infection control measures.
- Monitor and document patients' response to dialysis treatment, including vital signs, laboratory results, and any adverse reactions or complications, maintaining accurate and thorough documentation.
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies that may arise during dialysis treatment, implementing appropriate interventions and alerting the healthcare team.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families, addressing their concerns, promoting a positive and supportive environment, and facilitating patient engagement in their care.
Qualifications:
- Current registered nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Experience in nephrology or related field, with a focus on dialysis nursing is preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; additional certifications such as ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or CDN (Certified Dialysis Nurse) preferred.
- Knowledge of dialysis principles, techniques, and equipment, including hemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis.
- Proficient in performing vascular access cannulation and care.
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with advancements in nephrology and dialysis nursing.
