General Purpose
This position is responsible for supporting Geographical Information System (GIS) functions for the City within general policy and procedural guidelines and for adapting specific program procedures and activities to meet the needs of the City, other agencies, and technological advances.
Reporting Relationships
The GIS works under the close supervision of the City Engineer.

Essential Functions
- Produce maps and other GIS deliverables (e.g., KMZs, shapefiles, etc.) for City staff, other government agencies, and the public, as needed.
- Create, organize, and manage geographic data.
- Perform GPS data collection, including operating the City's drone. Manage GPS and drone equipment.
- Perform geoprocessing and geospatial analysis.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Manage software licenses as needed.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, or closely related field, and
- Two (2) years of professional work experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and the ESRI ArcGIS suite, particularly ArcGIS Field Maps, Dashboards, Survey123, ArcGIS Online, and Web AppBuilder. Prefer familiarity with QGIS as well.
- Familiarity with CAD drawings and related software (e.g., Autodesk Civil3D).
- Knowledge of geospatial data standards and best practices.
- Has or is able to acquire Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Remote Pilot certification.
- Familiarity with drones and related software (DJI Fly, Drone2Map).
- Must be able to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Strong organizational skills including field notes and project documentation.
- Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software, and general computer tasks.
- Position may require filing, typing, and reading from a computer screen.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Employees work under typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet, but may work outdoors in variable weather conditions. Talking, hearing, and seeing are necessary for performing most essential functions. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions. Some lifting up to 20 pounds.
