    Salary: The annual salary range for this position is Range #15 ($139,499 - $242,292). Actual starting salary will depend on professional work experience, qualifications, and related legislative/government experience.

    Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session.

    Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-5pm

    Position Summary

    Under the direction of the Senate GOP Leader, supervises the staff of the Senate GOP Caucus. Conducts assignments of a specialized nature relating to the Caucus policies and programs. Relieves GOP Leader of as much detailed work as possible by performing or coordinating a variety of operational matters of complexity.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Assist the GOP Leader in all aspects of GOP Caucus policies, initiatives, strategy, and support.
    • Serve as the GOP Caucus liasion between the GOP Leader, Caucus senators, Minnesota House, and Executive branch to communicate information and objectives.
    • Monitor legislation and inform GOP Caucus members of changes and updates to effectively make legislative decisions.
    • Exercise supervisory authority, so that job duties are equitably administered to direct-reports, in order to effectively perform assigned job duties and achieve the annual performance objectives.
    • Manage the Senate GOP Caucus staff so that they are provided adequate resources, direction, and supervision to enable them to meet the job responsibilities, expectations, and unit objectives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in public policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or related area of study AND Five (5) years of experience as listed below.

    OR

    Bachelor's Degree in an unrelated field AND Eight (8) years or experience as listed below.

    Experience should include the following:

    Legislative or public policy experience, monitoring legislation, developing public policy proposals, or related.

    In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:

    • Supervisory, managerial, project management, or leadership experience.
    • The ability to work long hours during legislative session.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
    • Use of discretion and confidentiality.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to balance conflicting demands.
    • Ability to provide clear direction to leadership during tense or difficult situations.
    • Ability to build a rapport with a variety of staff within the Senate and the public.

    Competencies

    • Ability to work independently and with a team.
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple on-going projects.
