GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the Teacher in teaching students daily curriculum, social and emotional skills consistent with the goals and principles of the Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in the field of early childhood or child development or valid CDA.
Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
TB skin Test
Certification of Completion in blood-borne pathogen training.
Certification of Completion in CPR and First Aide training.
Willingness to complete/update professional development hours
Other qualifications may be necessary depending on the respective program requirement changes.
RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY: To assist in classroom instruction and management at the direction of the Lead Teacher in accordance with the curriculum as stated below.
Curriculum
Discuss with teacher and/or program director preparation for preparing and presenting lesson plans, familiarity with High Scope Curriculum
Assist, demonstrate, and use audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to students under the direction of the Teacher.
Assist with implementing lessons in small group and individually.
Assist during activities in behavior management of students.
Assist and participate with children in outside activities.
Arrive in the classroom on time daily to prepare the classroom for the arrival of students each morning in accordance with the teacher’s room set up plan.
Escort children to and from the activities as directed by the Teacher.
Assist Teacher with supervising children in the bathroom and assisting any child with clothing changes when needed.
Work with a small group of children to plan and review their daily work.
Reporting and/or referring all conversations with parents/guardians to the Teacher.
Assist Teacher in maintaining the materials in the classroom; ie. Straightening out the work areas in the classroom at the end of each day.
Disinfect the classroom.
Accompany Teacher on home visits.
Assists Teacher in coordinating and supervising class field trips

Record Keeping
Assist Teacher in preparing materials for lessons.
Assist Teacher in administering and correcting lessons.
Assist Teacher with attendance and meal count.
Take anecdotal notes of observations of children pertaining to the High Scope Key Experiences and recording them in the Preschool Child Observation Record (COR).
Discipline & Counseling
Teach and enforce classroom rules of conduct and behavior.
Maintain order in classroom and on playground.
At the direction of the Teacher, assist in maintaining classroom in a neat and clean manner.
Report needed repairs and maintenance to the Teacher.
Counsel students when emotional or academic problems arise.
Engage in family style lunch.
Supervise student drop-off and pick-up areas.
Shall use positive, non-severe and developmentally appropriate methods of discipline that encourage self-control, self-direction, self-esteem and cooperation that align with the conflict resolution method established by High Scope.
