About the IT Administrator position
The purpose of an IT administrator is to maintain and manage the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and systems, to ensure optimal performance and reliability. They are responsible for implementing and enforcing security measures to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access, safeguarding the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data. IT administrators provide technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring smooth operation of IT systems. They play a key role in planning and implementing IT projects and upgrades, aligning technology initiatives with business objectives. Additionally, IT administrators ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, maintaining documentation and reporting on IT activities and performance.
IT Administrator responsibilities are:
- Network Maintenance: Manage and maintain the company's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points. Troubleshoot network issues and implement solutions to ensure reliable connectivity.
- Server Administration: Administer and monitor server systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems and server software. Perform routine backups, maintenance and ensure data integrity and availability.
- Security Management: Implement and maintain security measures to protect the company's IT systems and data. This includes managing antivirus software, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
- System Configuration: Configure, deploy, and maintain IT systems and applications, including desktops, laptops, servers, and software. Install updates, patches, and security fixes to ensure system reliability and security
- Hardware and Software Support: Provide technical support to end-users for hardware and software issues. Install, configure, and update software applications as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware problems and coordinate repairs or replacements as necessary.
- User Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and access levels across various systems and applications. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements regarding user access and data security.
- User Support and Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to end-users via phone, email, or in person. Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues promptly and effectively. Escalate complex problems to appropriate teams or vendors as needed
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, configurations, and procedures. Generate reports on system performance, security incidents, and compliance metrics as needed.
- IT Infrastructure Planning and compliance: Assist in planning and implementing IT infrastructure upgrades and expansions to support business growth and technological advancements. Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency and productivity. Ensure compliance with IT security policies, procedures, and regulations. Monitor systems for security vulnerabilities and assist in implementing security measures to protect against cyber threats.
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of system failures or disasters. Conduct regular tests and drills to ensure readiness and effectiveness.
IT Administrator requirements are:
- BS Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), etc., preferred
- Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, etc.) for automation and task
- optimization.
- Familiarity with IT project management methodologies
- Proven experience in IT administration, including network, server, and security management.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols, hardware, and software, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.
- Prior experience in IT support or technical analysis role.
- Proficiency in server administration (Windows Server, Linux/Unix) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and tools, such as firewalls, antivirus, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly.
- Solid understanding of ITIL framework and IT service management principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members and end-users at all levels of the organization.
- Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Strong technical skills in hardware, software, and networking technologies.
- Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and productivity applications (Microsoft Office, G Suite, etc.).
