Position Overview:
The General Maintenance/Irrigation Specialist is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing the school’s irrigation systems and performing general maintenance tasks across campus. This role requires someone with technical expertise in irrigation systems and a willingness to perform a variety of maintenance tasks to keep our campus in top condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Irrigation System Maintenance: Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution across campus grounds, including programming controllers, adjusting sprinklers, and checking for leaks or malfunctions.
- System Upgrades & Adjustments: Make necessary adjustments to the irrigation system for seasonal changes, landscape modifications, or water efficiency improvements.
- Grounds Maintenance: Assist with general landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks, such as trimming, mulching, and planting, to maintain a beautiful and safe campus.
- General Maintenance Support: Perform general building maintenance tasks as needed, including basic plumbing, electrical, and repairs in common areas and exterior spaces.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of irrigation systems, pumps, and other outdoor equipment to prevent malfunctions and minimize repairs.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of irrigation schedules, maintenance activities, and supply inventories to optimize system performance and track maintenance needs.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the facilities and grounds teams to support landscaping and building maintenance needs and prioritize tasks effectively.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in irrigation system maintenance and general facility maintenance, preferably in a school, park, or similar environment.
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting irrigation systems and controllers, with a basic knowledge of plumbing and general maintenance.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve irrigation and maintenance issues efficiently.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50+ pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.

- Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively with staff and vendors.
