Position Description
| POSITION TITLE: | General Manager | LOCATION: | Cornerstone CFCU Arena, 1 Grigg Lewis Wy, Lockport, NY 14094 | REPORTS TO: | Board of Directors | EMPLOYMENT STATUS: | Full-Time | COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The starting compensation range for the General Manager is $75,000 depending on qualifications and experience. This position provides a competitive benefits package plus incentives.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As the General Manager (GM) at Lockport Ice Arena & Sports Center, Inc., the GM will play a vital role in ensuring a safe, family-friendly environment while delivering exceptional customer service at our arena. The GM will report to the Board of Directors and work under the direction of a consulting firm (Pinnacle Indoor Sports) to oversee and guide the arena's operations. Pinnacle Indoor Sports will act as the primary supervisory authority for the GM, providing strategic oversight and support. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing all aspects of the facility, including operations, revenue generation, financial management, marketing, and staff management/development. Other key responsibilities include fostering a positive team culture, supporting staff in achieving organizational goals, and developing plans to advance the arena’s mission while promoting long-term revenue, sustainability, and growth. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in the sports and ice arena industry, with a strong focus on facility management and leadership.
Areas of Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
Develop a strategic plan to advance the arena's mission and to promote revenue, sustainability, and growth within the arena with measurable goals (Key performance indicators – KPI’s). These goals will be tracked by the GM and reported to the Board of Directors on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Operations Management
Oversee daily operations, including ice maintenance, facility upkeep, and scheduling.
Manage facility rentals, tournaments, and special events.
Oversees the seasonal changeover of the ice rink flooring.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for facility operations.
Manage inventory and procurement of supplies and equipment.
Ensure overall safety standards for employees and users of the arena.
Work with the Arena Director of Maintenance to research facility energy efficiency and clean technology trends.
Staff Management and Training and Development
Hire, train, and supervise all staff, including managers, directors, and facility staff.
Develop and implement performance metrics and evaluation systems for staff.
Manage employee relations and address any issues or concerns.
Promote the development of staff members through training and leadership opportunities.
Work directly with arena staff/directors encouraging collaborative efforts to consistently evolve and improve programming efforts.
Oversee HR responsibilities for labor and industries and compliance with any state regulations for employers.
Financial Management
Develop and implement an annual budget for the facility.
Monitor financial performance, including revenue and expenses, payroll, AR/AP, inventory, and cash control.
Oversee revenue generation, including programming, concessions, and sponsorships.
Secure bids for capital improvements and prepare proposals for the Board of Directors.
Marketing and Sales
Develop and execute a marketing and sales plan for the arena.
Promote the facility through written articles, public relations efforts, and appearances.
Represent the Facility at community events and at formal functions.
Customer Service
Provide excellent customer service to all arena users.
Establish and maintain strong communication ties with renters, potential renters, staff, suppliers, and local associations.
Develop user policies and enforcement for programs, leagues, participants, facility, and spectators.
Additional Responsibilities
Oversee ancillary business units, such as concessions, pro shop, and party/event rentals.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all facility operations.
Work with maintenance staff to ensure the facility is well-maintained and safe.
Respond to emergencies and address any urgent issues.
Attends professional seminars, conferences, and associations to stay updated on developments in arena management and program operations.
Create and recommend a capital improvement budget for Board approval.
Prepare informational quarterly reports to the Lockport Ice Arena & Sports Center Board.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sports and recreation management, business administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility management, preferably in the sports, recreation, or ice arena industry.
Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
Knowledge of financial management and budgeting.
Experience with facility maintenance and operations.
Familiarity with ice rink operations and ice-making procedures.
Critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve.
Excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and customer service.
Must have previous experience drafting and negotiating agreements
Ability to work independently and be flexible in meeting the needs of the facility.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
