Job Overview:
The selected General Oncologist Physician will offer expert consultation and treatment in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include evaluating and prioritizing consultations from primary care and other services, obtaining medical histories, conducting physical exams, ordering and assessing laboratory tests, and developing treatment plans. The physician will also coordinate care with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary environment. Additionally, the physician will provide oncology on-call services as required within the Western New York Healthcare System. Care provided will adhere to high standards, meeting or surpassing national benchmarks set by organizations such as the Joint Commission (TJC), the American Hospital Association (AHA), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
Experience Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in providing a broad range of oncology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This includes expertise in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating various types of cancers
- Proven experience in providing a broad range of oncology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This includes expertise in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating various types of cancers
- Experience in performing administrative tasks such as peer review and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations
- Experience in providing on-call services and handling emergencies or urgent consultations outside of regular clinic hours
- Familiarity with and adherence to national standards for oncology care as established by organizations like The Joint Commission and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
Experience Preferences:
- Experience in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel to Batavia and Olean for oncology clinics, with a minimum of one day per quarter and a maximum of one day per week at each location based on patient volume
- Anticipated maximum of 26 visits per year to Batavia and Olean locations
- Manual dexterity: To handle precise tools
- Physical stamina: To stand for long hours
- Organization skills: To keep track of patients' diagnoses and treatments
- Problem-solving skills: To evaluate patients' symptoms
- Verbal communication skills: To explain cancers and treatment options to patients
Education Requirements:
- Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. state or territory. Prior or current restrictions or disciplinary actions on licenses will disqualify candidates
- Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medical Oncology
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent. Ongoing continuing education is required to maintain certification

Schedule:
- Normal clinic hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays
- Must be available for on-call coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Physicians must be available at all times for phone consultations with residents and physicians
- Must be available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site, within 60 minutes
- On-call schedule will be made in conjunction with staff oncology physicians
