    Job Summary:

    An Assistant Controller is a professional who supports accounting management, assists in formulating internal controls, and helps prepare financial statements. They work closely with the controller to ensure compliance with regulations and accounting guidelines.

    Essential Functions:

    The Assistant Controller will have several key responsibilities in the fulfillment of their duties including:

    • Support all aspects of accounting management (billing, tax forms, reporting etc.), ensuring monthly, quarterly financial statements are accurate.
    • Analyzes financial statements to point out areas that can be improved upon for recording transactions, streamlining of procedures, and ways to increase the bottom line for assigned profit centers.
    • Assist and coordinate with the daily activities of all accounting staff to include but not limited to bank reconciliations, cash entries, daily cash reporting and forecasting.
    • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
    • Responds to both internal and external customer information requests in a timely manner and ensures customer satisfaction.
    • Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing.
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts.
    • Participate in preparation for the annual audit.
    • Help in development of reports for management or regulatory bodies.
    • Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
    • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records.

    Experience and Qualifications:

    The successful Assistant Controller has previous experience in corporate accounting with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ related experience.

    • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
    • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
    • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks).
    • Well-organized with ability to prioritize, including excellent problem-solving ability.
    • Very good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Education and Training

    The Assistant Controller typically needs to have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance where a master’s degree would be advantageous.
