Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Pathology Transcriptionist to join our team! As a pathology transcriptionist, you will routinely create reports based on information provided by physicians, lab technicians, and other medical or surgical staff. As a pathology transcriptionist, your duties include creating a transcription of an office visit and laboratory work or records based on doctor’s notes/dictation and additional information. You may also be responsible for entering the final transcription into a database or sending it to the relevant medical professionals for corrections. In this role, you must understand medical terminology and common medical abbreviations. Most pathology transcriptionists are medical transcriptionists who have specialized knowledge of pathology. Because of their job responsibilities, all medical transcriptionists need knowledge of medical terminology and strong typing skills. Pathology transcriptionists need specialized expertise in pathology either from a course or on-the-job training. Attention to detail is vital because any errors on clinical reports could affect someone’s diagnosis or health outcomes. After the initial training period which can vary dependent on the applicants previous experience (3-6 months), there may be some room to complete some of the work remotely, however the position will not be fully remote at any point.
Transcriptionist Responsibilities
Offering clerical/administrative assistance to the Pathologists and conveying findings from cyto/anatomic pathology cases
Completing transcription tasks for both preliminary and final diagnoses in cytology and surgical reports
Ensuring adherence to company formatting guidelines for transcriptions
Conducting resarch and validation of names, terminologies, and related data when necessary
The ideal candidate will possess the following
Can collaboirate effectively with diverse individuals and temperament, and effectively communicate with Physicians and all support staff including nursing personnel.
Possesses exceptional oral communication, attentive listening, and proficient computer skills
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Lab EHR/LIS systems
Can operate autonomously and fulfill work requirements within designated timelines
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High School Degree or equivalent
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
At least two (2) years experience in Pathology transcription preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
The ability to read and interpret test results, while effectively transcribing that information to a pathology report
