    Job Description

    POWERLINE DAMAGE ASSESSOR IS PERFECT FOR JOURNEYMEN LINEMEN, OR RETIRED JOURNEYMEN LINEMEN, OR MUST BE A PERSON WITH A MINIMUM OF 3 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE IN UTILITY DISTRIBUTION OR TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS (OPERATIONS, ENGINEERING, OR CONSTRUCTION) PREFERRED.

    THIS IS A 1099 CONTRACTOR POSITION.

    TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE NORTHEAST UNITED STATES REGION IS A MUST!

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Able to identify primary and secondary electrical facilities, including poles, primary wires, secondary wires, services, primary insulators, transformers, fuses, reclosers, regulators, OCBs, substations, etc.

    • Conduct all work duties safely and adhere to all safety standards, regulations, and policies.

    • Familiar with knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission safety rules and procedures.

    • Able to identify the difference between electrical, cablevision, and telephone lines.

    • Able to troubleshoot and identify all hazards with energized and non-energized primary and secondary voltages.

    • Lead on a two-person team assigned to patrol distribution lines damaged by ice, wind, or other causes.

    • Identify all necessary repairs required for restoration.

    • Able to read and follow distribution circuit maps noting facilities are needing repair.

    • Complete detailed client damage reports and take detailed notes of damage assessment.

    • Able to use binoculars, cell phones, and client radios as needed.

    • Be available for work the daily hours required by the utility’s work schedule and until completion of the restoration work and released by the utility.

    • Be able to stand and scout through various terrain and weather conditions.

    • Complete any follow-up work required by utility, sweeps, etc.

    • Work with integrity.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    The position requires someone physically capable of walking out power line right of ways under various weather and terrain conditions. Weather conditions may include snow, ice, rain, wind, or high heat/humidity. The terrain conditions may include but are not limited to off-road rural areas in swampy or overgrown ways, mountainous terrain.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in utility distribution or transmission systems (engineering, operations, or construction) preferred will take experienced fiber or cable tower workers.

    • Must be physically capable of walking out power line right of ways under various weather and terrain conditions described in the above position description.

    GRID ELECTRIC WILL PROVIDE THE STORM DAMAGE ASSESSOR WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS BEFORE REPORTING FOR DAMAGE ASSESSMENT DUTY:

    • Hard hat+

    • Safety glasses+

    • Reflective vest (class III)

    • Work Gloves

    • Personal Voltage Detector (PVD)

    STORM DAMAGE ASSESSOR IS REQUIRED TO PROVIDE- STEEL OR COMPOSITE TOED BOOTS, WORK JEANS, LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS, JACKETS, FACE MASKS, ETC.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described are those that must be met by the contractor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the contractor is regularly required to talk or hear. The contractor is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle to feel; and reach with hands and arms.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    While performing this job's duties, the contractor is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The contractor is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
