    The Transportation Safety Supervisor will provide support, direction and guidance to the company’s leadership across five locations. In addition, they will interact with and directly influence the behavior, performance and knowledge base of the GHI tractor trailer CDL drivers; and serve in a consulting role, enabling location managers to address safety and regulatory issues impacting the transportation operations organization.

    This position will report to the Director of Safety.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor DOT Driver Qualification files and as it relates to the hiring and selection process
    • Develop materials and conduct training for drivers in the implementation of the Transportation Safety Management Monthly safety & tailgate meetings
    • Create and communicate the accident management protocol for truck drivers
    • Know DOT Recordable Accident Investigations and Perform accident investigations
    • Respond to safety complaints reported by our drivers
    • Perform in-house DOT compliance audits and conduct an overall DOT compliance course
    • Review & Understand PEOPLENET’s ELD/HOS (Electronic Logs), for every driver, every day, and retrain & discipline for all non-compliant issues
    • Mentor field operational management in safety process to ensure consistent practices
    • Oversee roadside inspection process reports and documentation and coach operations management on roadside inspection issues
    • Monitor GPS for speeding and idle time
    • Regularly review surveillance LYTX videos of truck movements and coach our drivers on these behaviors
    • Provide behind-the-wheel and other trainings are provided to new hires
    • Train active drivers on vehicle inspection, proper mirror placement, and maneuvering principles
    • Mentor drivers through safety management practices, protocols and procedures
    • Monitor compliance of drivers and supervisors on topics such as drug and alcohol testing, hours of service, etc.
    • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, regarding transportation and workplace safety
    • Administer company DOT – FMCSA safety program at the field level and monitor work processes and procedures to drive team performance, heighten safety awareness, and mitigate risk
    • Monitor CSA (Compliance, Safety, and Accountability) Basic Scores to address trends and driver performance. Provide operations with CSA basic scores & reports
    • Work with vehicle maintenance vendors/employees to ensure preventative maintenance compliance and maintain vehicle and employee safety logs
    • Review accidents/incidents and conduct field investigations
    • Participate in the Accident Review Board and assure proper accountability for preventable accidents
    • Provide monthly scorecards which include tactics and activities from FMCSR Standards’ perspective
    • Counsel employees on accident and injury prevention when and complete Worker’s Compensation & Accident (WC) Paperwork with the driver, when necessary

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5+ years supply chain, transportation management and/ or safety management experience preferred
    • Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint
    • Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSA & OSHA standards; familiarity with concepts, such as resource management, cost analysis, and resource optimization
    • Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve risk trends, problems, and solutions based on sound logic and rationale
    • Ability to develop, coach, and mentor others including the ability to provide development experiences, advice, and teach to prepare others for effective job performance
    • Ability to work well in a team environment
    • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality
    • Experience with LYTX and/or PEOPLENET is a plus
    • Commercial driver’s license (current or former CDL driver) preferred

    TRAVEL

    • Willing to drive up to 50% of the time between NYC, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
