    Southwest Women's Oncology Team (SWWO) is rapidly growing and looking for a dedicated and driven Gynecologic Oncologist to join their high-performance team.     Meet Dr. Karen Finkelstein:

    Dr. Karen Finkelstein, leader of the medical team at Southwest Women's Oncology, specializes in the latest treatments for gynecologic cancers. The goal of her practice is to offer the best possible outcomes, while treating each patient with personalized care in a healing environment built around compassion and respect.

    Double-board certified in OB/GYN and GYN/ONC by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Finkelstein is the first women's specialist in New Mexico to be recognized with Master Surgeon accreditation in both Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Gynecology.

    She is the Medical Co-Director of the Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) program at Lovelace Women's Hospital, which is also designated as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS).

    As an executive board member of the New Mexico Care Alliance, Dr. Finkelstein actively supports clinical research, providing her patients with access to the newest, most promising clinical trials. A passionate promoter of early detection, she founded the Cancer's Worst Enemy initiative. This unique program champions, educates, and empowers women in their journey from early diagnosis to conquering cancer. She is also an expert adviser to United to Cure Cancer's STAMP (Support, Training & Assistance for Medical Providers) program. This program helps referring providers get the information they need in order to offer the best options to patients facing potential gynecologic cancer diagnoses.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Provide comprehensive care to gynecologic oncology patients through both clinical and surgical expertise.
    • Perform a 50/50 split between clinic and surgical time, depending on surgical volume.
    • Operate primarily within Albuquerque's two major health systems with access to Da Vinci robotics across all affiliated hospitals.
    • Supervise and collaborate with a supportive team of 2 Nurse Practitioners, 4 Physician Assistants, and 5 Registered Nurses for office care, rounds, surgery, and first call.
    • Share on-call duties evenly with attending physicians; APPs provide first call support with rare attending intervention required.
    • Participate in Southwest Women's Oncology's clinical research program via Optimum Clinical Research Group with opportunities to serve as Principal Investigator and contribute to publications.
    • Work collaboratively with the University of New Mexico (UNM) for fellowship training and attending participation, engaging with fellows, residents, and students.

    Qualifications:

    • Board-certified/Board-eligible in Gynecologic Oncology.
    • Expertise in robotic surgery and minimally invasive gynecologic procedures.
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a passion for patient-focused care.
    • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, collaborative, and efficient practice environment.
