HIM Manager-
American Consultants is looking for a permanent HIM Manager for a facility in Northeast Utah.
The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager & Privacy Officer will lead and oversee the daily operations of the HIM department. This includes ensuring the accuracy and completeness of medical records, managing the release of information (ROI), and overseeing the archival, storage, and retention of all medical records. The role also involves supervising coding functions and ensuring strict compliance with privacy regulations to protect patient information, while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and security across all health data management processes.
This is an Exempt, full time, year-round position.
Starting Pay Range: $81,120.00- $87,360.00, DOE
Anticipated Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Essential duties, skills and responsibilities:
Health Information Management (HIM) Leadership:
• Supervise and manage the HIM department, including hiring, development, training, performance evaluations, and communication to ensure effective and efficient department operation. • Maintain department productivity, quality and efficiency for all processes within the department.
• Audit records and data for accuracy, compliance and timelines.
• Oversee and assist with data collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, and retention of medical records.
• Prepare and analyze clinical data for process improvement, mandatory reporting and more.
• Oversee the coding process, ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional departments to streamline workflow, optimize revenue cycle management, and enhance data accuracy.
• Prepares, monitors, and evaluates department budgets.
• Monitors and follows up on coding complaints received from customers to ensure appropriate resolution.
• Lead and mentor a team of skilled coders and ROI specialists, inspiring them to achieve performance goals.
Privacy Compliance:
• Serve as the hospital's Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with all relevant privacy laws, regulations, and standards.
• Develop, update, and enforce privacy policies and procedures to protect the confidentiality of patient information.
• Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and address potential privacy breaches or vulnerabilities.
• Investigate and report any privacy incidents, working closely with hospital administration and legal teams as necessary.
• Conduct staff training and education on privacy regulations and best practices to ensure staff awareness and compliance.
Regulatory Compliance:
• Stay informed about updates to healthcare regulations and requirements, ensuring the hospital's adherence to relevant laws and guidelines.
• Participate in internal and external audits related to HIM and privacy practices.
• Work with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies to address any compliance-related matters.
• Analyze HIM and privacy-related metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership and staff to drive performance improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Certified by the AHIMA American Health Information Management Association) or AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) such as: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CPC (Certified Professional Coder) RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator).
• 3-5 years of coding experience with knowledge in both Inpatient and Outpatient coding.
• Strong knowledge of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and other relevant privacy regulations.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with cross-functional departments Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and health information technologies.
