    We are seeking a dynamic Managing Director who will spearhead our mission, driving the organization forward by sourcing innovative deals and cultivating strong relationships within the community and with investors. In this pivotal role, you’ll be at the forefront of business growth, creating, negotiating, and closing investment opportunities while leading fundraising efforts. You will be the catalyst for success, ensuring seamless collaboration and achievement both within our team and in our external partnerships.


    Essential Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Development

    • Develop and execute business strategies with strategic partners to meet both short-term and long-term investment goals.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with key community contacts and experts to enhance our community presence.
    • Prepare and present quarterly and annual reports for various stakeholders.
    • Oversee all operational aspects of managing a venture fund, including operations, accounting, finance, and human resources.

    Business Investments:

    • Identify venture capital deals from a variety of sources, including other venture firms, academic settings, incubators, personal networks and community relations.
    • Evaluate investment opportunities using personal investment experience and company processes.
    • Skillfully manage Term Sheet negotiations and assemble investor syndicates.
    • Conduct thorough due diligence for investment selection, particularly in fintech, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and information technology sectors.
    • Summarize investment opportunities clearly for Investment Committee members, including drafting Investment Memos.
    • Support and monitor portfolio companies to ensure they meet performance and strategic objectives.

    Investor Relations:

    • Serve as the primary contact for holdings, investors, and board members, maintaining regular communication and active engagement in the organization’s work.
    • Lead all activities related to onboarding new investors and achieving fundraising goals for specific deals, leveraging a loyal investor network.



    Our ideal candidate will have:

    • A degree in business, finance, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
    • 5+ years’ experience working in a financial institution (e.g. Credit Unions, Investment Firms, Retail and Commercial Banks etc.), with a strong preference for Venture Capital or private equity experience
    • 3+ years’ experience in developing and implementing strategic and business plans, including financial modeling
    • Proven experience working in the Grand Rapids community is strongly preferred
    • Investment experience with necessary certifications and licenses for financial and investment advice
    • Strong negotiation and presentation skills for managing complex ventures with measurable successes
    • Experience working with diverse groups from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
    • Excellent communication skills, responsiveness, and flexibility
    • Proactive self-starter


    The New Community Transformation Fund offers a salary range of $115k-$125k based on experience and a comprehensive benefits package.
