As this Peripheral Vascular Start Up continues to prioritize people and culture and begin to expand our footprint, we are ready to welcome our first full-time senior hire in human resources. This pivotal role will play a key role in the growth of our company by ensuring strategic HR initiatives align with our business goals. We’re seeking an experienced strategic leader with a minimum of 10 years in human resources who can navigate the challenges of scaling a fast-moving startup.
Responsibilities
Strategic human resources & talent management
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop an organization design roadmap and a hiring plan to support our ambitious goals
- Manage external resources (recruiters, HR operations consultant, payroll providers) for cost-effective growth
- Develop and manage a company-wide, lightweight performance management program
Recruiting
- Oversee the process of posting open roles, scheduling interviews, and coordinating the candidate experience.
- Implement and manage our applicant tracking system
- Oversee external job posting sites (e.g. LinkedIn) and recruiting agencies
- Implement an onboarding process
Compensation and Benefits management
- Develop a compensation plan; structure, levelling guides and pay ranges. Align comp plan the Northern CA market values and other regions as appropriate.
- Develop and manage benefits vendors for new additions, renewals, and employee enrollment
- Manage relationship with our benefits broker
- HRIS implementation and management
- Manage the company organization chart
Employee relations
- Provide counsel and thought leadership to managers, assisting them with employee relations, talent management, and team growth
- Act as the main point of contact for employee inquiries regarding HR policies, payroll, systems and benefits
- Manage employee engagement through a combination of qualitative input and quantitative studies
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, including working with international partners on legal compliance and payroll
- Payroll
- Collaborate with the outsourced accounting team to manage and eventually bring payroll in-house
Event management
- Plan employee engagement and recruiting events
- Other duties - we expect this position to grow in responsibilities as the company expands
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus minimum of ten years of HR generalist experience in a life sciences environment with recent senior leadership experience
- The gravitas and experience to counsel and collaborate with executives and leaders in the company
- Strong management skills, both with internal teams and external consultants
- Ability to plan and oversee flawless HR operations processes, including payroll, onboarding, and recruiting
- Comfortable learning new tools and software applications, with experience implementing new systems
- High level of discretion and experience dealing with sensitive topics such as compensation and performance
- Demonstrated experience engaging with employees in a supportive manner; building strong internal relationships based on mutual respect and trust
- PHR/SPHR certification preferred
- The ability to pivot from high level strategy to hands on detailed execution a must.
