    Position Summary:

    The Father Judge High School HVAC–R Technology Specialist will deliver the Father Judge High School CTE Academy HVAC–R Maintenance Technology Curriculum. The curriculum incorporates the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Programs of Study HAVC–R Competency List, plus additional HVAC-R field tasks, as well as customer relations and lab/shop duties and tasks as recommend by the programs Occupational Advisory Committee.

    The instructor will conduct structured instruction in the classroom and HVAC–R laboratory, including virtual instruction if needed. The HVAC/R Technology Specialist will be under the immediate supervision of the Principal at Father Judge High School and will work closely with the administration in the expansion of the HVAC–R Maintenance Technology program and certification, credential, and licensing requirements for all HVAC–R Maintenance Technology students. The specialist will also work closely with our partners to ensure all students applying to participate in the Co-Op program are work-ready and ensure their success in that program.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • The HVAC–R Technology Instructor prepares performance-based objectives and outlines the course of study within the HVAC–R Maintenance Technology Framework while following curriculum guidelines.
    • Organizes the instructional program for practical and technical instruction including lab/shop safety; demonstration of skills required in HVAC–R Maintenance Technology profession; theory, techniques, and terminology; coordination of the instructional program with the HVAC–R Maintenance Technology Specialist and administration; assembly and maintain materials for instruction.
    • Instructs students in safety, proper use and operation of hand and power tools and equipment, codes and regulations associated with the HVAC–R Maintenance Technology industry.
    • Instructs students in developing the essential skills of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, timeliness, and excellent work habits in order to obtain employment.
    • Represents Father Judge High School CTE programs at Pennsylvania Association of Career and Technical Administrators conferences and regional seminars for similar technology and trade organization professionals.
    • Keeps a clean and orderly automotive lab space and classroom; ensures that waste and by-products are disposed of according to OSHA and EPA standards and procedures.
    • Consults regularly with the Principal, administration, guidance office and The Brisson Center Director to provide academic support and help for low achievers including study groups and additional instruction in preparation for educational and industry recognized certifications, credentials, and licenses.
    • The HVAC–R Maintenance Technology Specialists in conjunction with the administration are responsible for the expanding relationships with the Occupational Advisory Committee, and the local business and industry community to ensure job training goals, objectives and curriculum are aligned with the changing needs of the business community and industry partners.
    • Participate annually in 20 hours of industry related and administration approved professional development.
    • Develop and maintain a tool, supply, and equipment inventor list.
    • Develop and maintain a tool and equipment maintenance schedule.
    • Provides a structured educational / learning environment through consistent classroom management and planned lab activities.
    • Maintains student records in accordance with Father Judge policies and procedures.

    Required Qualifications: (Education/Training and Experience)

    • Three to five years of successful HVAC–R Maintenance Technology instruction at the high school, post- secondary or college level.

    • Master’s degree, preferred in HVAC–R Maintenance Technology, Industrial Education or Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum.

    • OR PDE Vocational Level II certification in HVAC–R Maintenance Technology instruction, preferred.

    • OR 6000 hours of verified HVAC–R Maintenance Technology occupational experience.

    • Certifications Required

    • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification

    • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification

    • R-410A Certification

    • Indoor Air Quality Certification

    • Type 1-3 and Universal EPA Certification

    • Valid driver’s license.

    Preferred Qualifications: (Education/Training and Experience)

    • NATE Senior Level Efficiency in HVAC Excellence, H.E.A.T., and Master Specialist Hands-on
    • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite is preferred.
    • Experience using Schoology and PowerSchool preferred.
    • Previous HVAC–R Maintenance Technology teaching experience preferred
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills, work efficiently, juggle tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and achieve goals.
    • Strong motivation skills.
    • Ability to work productively and positively with staff, students, parents, alumni, and community.
    • HVAC/R Maintenance Technology Specialist is a 12-month position.
