Luxury handbag design development facility seeks a full-time, skilled, and experienced Handbag Sample Maker to develop handbag and small leather good prototypes and samples. Position is responsible for ensuring all products adhere to company quality standers and methods, meeting given deadlines on projects and communicating any quality issues or delays to the Project Manager or Floor Supervisor in a timely manner. The growth potential of this role is floor supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of work experience in sewing handbags, small leather goods or related.
Ability to read and understand a design card / technical drawing.
High attention to detail and craftsmanship - maintaining clean stitching, consistent margins & SPI on all constructions.
Must be willing to assist with other functions as needed.
Eager to learn and expand skills and quality of work.
Works well under pressure to meet deadlines.
Must have a positive attitude and work well with others along with professionalism in attitude, appearance and approach.
Flexibility to work occasional evening/weekend hours, based on the needs of the business.
Ability to adhere to deadlines and adjust priorities as necessary.
Working English as needed to fulfill job requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately make professional handbag leather goods prototypes and samples.
Study design cards and communicate any questions/issues to Director or Office Manager
Work closely with Pattern/Sample makers and Floor Manager to align with company standards and complete projects.
Prep work including but not limited to cutting, gluing, and skiving.
Maintain a clean and orderly workspace throughout and at the end of each day.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Understanding of handbag construction
Ability to read and interpret design cards and specifications.
Bilingual: English, Spanish
