Job Title: Health and Safety Technician IV (NWS CL0004)
North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the federal government. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions in Los Alamos, NM Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
North Wind Services has an opening in Los Alamos, NM for a Health and Safety Technician IV to support line managers and facility personnel in ensuring compliance with the Laboratory and regulatory health and safety requirements. The successful candidate will assist health and safety professionals with various sampling activities and inspections to identify and control potential hazards. The successful candidate will be in a senior-level role to handle field, laboratory, and data management tasks, applying considerable skills in related fields such as in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, industrial hygiene, and health physics.
_Essential Duties
_ - Assist in the collection of personnel air samples, swipe and bulk sampling, area sampling, and real time sampling.
- Inspect areas and review operations to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Provide technical support in recognizing, measuring, evaluating, and controlling health and safety hazards.
- Facilitate the implementation of health and safety requirements and manage related data.
- Perform all other job duties as assigned.
_Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
_ - Highschool Diploma and four to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Additional training, certification, or education may be expected, including associates degrees and gradation from technical institutions.
- Advanced skills and knowledge beyond Level 3, with extensive understanding of specialized tasks and related disciplines.
- Ability to develop solutions to complex problems, using ingenuity, creativity, and independence.
- Work with minimal direction, contributing original work and having an impact on group accomplishments.
- Comprehensive understanding of general and technical aspects of the job, with responsibility for coordinating and participating in developing final products.
_Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
_ - Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Safety Experience; expertise in sampling, IH mitigations, and understanding of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Proficiency with computer skills for data management and analysis.
- Effective in dealing with the workforce and facilitating communication and cooperation.
