Position Overview Skagit River Steel & Recycling, Inc. under the ABC Recycling umbrella group of companies is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to be based out of our Burlington, WA location. Reporting to the General Manager, this person will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and problem diagnosis of mobile equipment (scrap metal handlers, forklifts, shears, balers, and trucks) including hydraulic and electrical systems. The successful candidate will be involved in dissembling and reassembling components such as engine and cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems and ordering the necessary materials and parts that will be required to complete repairs. Welding experience and a would be an asset. Most of all a good work ethic and a willingness to learn the keys to success in this role.
Responsibilities
Conducts maintenance tasks according to company environmental, health and safety practices and policies.
Tests equipment for proper performance and ensuring that all work done meets manufacturers specifications and legislated regulations.
Diagnoses various equipment faults or malfunctions.
Keeps equipment clean, lubricated and maintained.
Interprets work orders and technical manuals.
Supports company environmental, health, safety, security practices and policies.
Writes service reports.
Qualifications
Successful completion of an accredited diesel/heavy duty equipment mechanic apprenticeship program; OR, four (4) years of employment as a diesel/heavy duty equipment mechanic; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities
Must pass job related tests.
Vehicle Inspection Program License or the ability to obtain one would be considered an asset.
Non-Commercial Driver’s License (NCDL) with a clean drivers abstract.
Basic computer knowledge/skills.
Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients.
